Hats off to a great man...
My grandad on dad's side passed away wednesday at 11am.
I didn't know him well because my mom and dad have been divorced since I was 10 months old and i was raised by mom. I'm lucky because I got to see him a few weeks ago..I realized it had been about 20 years since I saw him last, and im just thankful that I got to see him before he passed.
I wish I could've known him better, but from what I know, he was a great man. He was born in Arkansas and then got a PHD in education from Oklahoma State University and ended up being the president of the University of Central Oklahoma for 15 years (1960-75). He was very involved with anything he got into. He was married to my grandma for 74 years...I can't imagine..74 years!
That's about all I know about him right now..my brother and I are going to go down to UCO sometime soon and look up some things, but I just wanted to vent and I don't really know what to think about all this right now..

Our condolences go out to your family. May he rest in peace.
This is a great point for those who still have their Grandparents and Parents. Spend quality time with them so you wont regret not having that time down the road.

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like he was quite a gentleman.
My Grandpa.........what can I say. He taught me how to bird hunt, fish and "tinker".
Since I didn't get along with the step dad from the age of 6, I lived with the Grandparents until I got out of high school and took out on my own. He dropped out of school at an early age and never done more than farm, work for the railroad and run a service station (not many of them left). For a man with very little education, he was a math genius. He could read through a book on everything from geometry to calculus and work any problem you put before him (I didn't get that gift from him). But, what I admired most about him.....was his outlook on life. He never got mad to the point of being rude to anyone, not even family. Although, one time a woman stole my Moms purse and he had to whup her husband (about half his age) to get it back.....but that's another story. Even then, I never heard him say a cross word about anyone and he would go out of his way to help anyone. A total opposite of my Grandmother........but she is another story. They both to lived to 90.
I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but if you still have them.....enjoy them.
