Hands free bluetooth and Nextel Blackberry
Due to the forthcoming hands free law, I need to purchase and install a hands free system in my truck. I have a Nextel Blackberry 7100i phone. Anyone know which systems will work with my phone? I have tried it in my wife's brand new Kenwood DNX 7100 and it won't work. I have neen told Nextel's are finicky . Anyone using one with success? An ear bud is not an option!

Hey Pauly!
If you got Satelite radio and you wire in one of the hands free devices you will loose your satelite radio. You may want to look @ some of these aftermarket radio/satelite/bluetooth radios out there. I didn't want to go through all that mess and I just bought a little bluetooth box that clips to the sunvisor, $80.00 from verizon. Works great for what it is.

Hey Tye!
Don't have the factory satellite, so that won't be a problem. My wife wanted me to get the Kenwood like she has, but I can't get my crappy Nextel phone to work with it, and that makes me wonder if I'm going to have issues with other systems. Everything about these Nextel phones is difficult. If my company didn't provide me with it I'd have a different service. Maybe I should check with Nextel and see what's compatible before I buy.

My understanding is bluetooth is bluetooth no matter what. Now! The difference is what version that the phone vs the handsfree device is running. The older bluetooths run off of version 1.1 I believe. The new stuff is 2.0 if I recall.

Troy,
That's what I was going to get, but again I was warned it may not work with Nextel.

Pualy Im trying to find the compatability chart thingie but I can tell you it works with a verizon B-Berry and my now ATT/Cingular B-Berry once its installed you just pick the pair option and punch in the number and they are paired and will pair any time the Parrot is on and you are within 30 feet. Kinda a PIA if you have a habit of leaving your truck running.the phone rings in your pocket you answer it but its going through the Parrot so you have to try to run to the truck before they hang up on you.

A couple of ways to try and find the verison. Get the owners manual for the phone and look under the bluetooth section, or go into tools section of the phone (were you go to pair the phone with the bluetooth) it may be there, or the last solution is to actually call the manufacture of the phone and find out.

Nope. Similar, but not the same. Here's my phone:
