Unhappy Had To Put Her Down Last Night.

After 13 great years I had to make the tuff decision to put my German Shepard to sleep last night.

Her parents were both "sable" colored and she came out completely White. Got her when she was a month old, named her Snowy. She was one of the best dogs I've owned. Extremely well tempered and protective as sin towards my little sister. I never known a dog at her age who was still so full of life and playful. She acted like a little pup all the time.

I noticed a few days ago she was somewhat disoriented, I thought maybe she wasn't felling to good that day. Then I got the call last night at work that she couldn't walk, was vomiting everywhere and started convulsing. I couldn't stand to see her in that state, it's a hard decision but she's better off now.

I have a 13 year old male who is still in good health. He knows she is gone and he is going crazy. Those 2 dogs were like peas in a pod. I hope this isn't going to be the straw that breaks his back.

Just wanted to get this off my chest.. Have a good one fellas.

Sorry for your loss. They are like family, we had a shepherd, 105 pounds and faithful like there is no tomorrow. Serious bad attitude to anyone not in our family or close friends. They are great dogs with a huge heart.

I know your pain and if you are a dog person like I am do not do what I did and wait 2 years to get another dog. Start looking now, it will not replace Snowy but you will be happier to have a new pup in the house then without.

I lost my Golden at 15 years old and then waited 2 years to get a new dog. The house was too empty, I now have 2 Golden's that are 2 years apart and the boss was actually taking about a 3rd one now that the younger one is 2.5 years old.

Sending some Thoughts and comfort you way! please know you did the right thing as not even medication would ease your dog's condition.

it is okay to be sad, the good memories and smiles WILL come soon enough.
spend some time getting and giving comfort to the shepard, you need each other now. if possible, take this shep with you on some errands....treat him special at this age.

26 years of dogs, there is always that special one who never leaves your memory. smile and be glad you had that opportunity!

best regards to you and your family!

Heidi

RIP Snowy

Once again the allergies act up!

I know your pain all to well. She is in a better place now and running free. Just very tough to lose a family member like that.

not only for yourself, but for your other pooch, start looking for a pup now. We went thru this a few years ago, and our other older dog went downhill fast without his partner, thought we were going to lose him, until we got a new pup, and then he came back around, and hung in there for 2 more years. Its always hard to lose a family member, and you cant ever replace one, but you can welcome a new member to the family.

Thanks everyone, you guys and gals are awesome.

I' m not puppy shopping for a while, I still have 3 other heathens running around. 2 German Shepards and an American Eskimo.

When I was younger I had a Doberman Pincher, she was a good dog. I 'd like to get another one someday, I just don't know how they hold up in the cold having such fine coats.

Not a fun thing to do - - my sympathy to you. I thought at first you meant you put your wife or girlfriend down - - had me worried.

I love Alaska Huskies - - those eyes are amazing.

Haha, no never had to put down the Ex-Wife. I kicked her out but never put her down.

Alaska Huskies are beautiful dogs, wouldn't mind having one. Are they well tempered dogs?

Justwannabeme, do you own a Huskie? Looks like you have one in your avatar.

I know how bad it feels to lose a companion.

If you do look for another companion down the road, I had an Akita and absolutely loved him, great dog.
