Re:GTO is coming back.

Yeah I just read the review in this month's Car and Driver. It does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and runs a 14.0 sec 1/4 mile. Not too shabby for a stock vehicle. The brakes leave a little to be desired though.....it took 185 ft to stop from 70mph...worse than all the other cars it was compared to. Heck, our trucks stop in about the same distance. But all in all, I love the styling of the new GTO. I dunno about the $33K sticker though.

Re:GTO is coming back.

Growing up my mom had a 69 (Judge?).
Biggest waste of a fine car I've ever seen.
Grocery getter, kid dropper offer.

Totally stock, the neighborhood "garage mechanic" who worked on it for her would light up the tires and burn rubber all the way down our street bringing it back from a tune up.

<edit> didn't mean the car is a waste, just having a housewife own it was the waste.

Re:GTO is coming back.

I've always liked the looks of the 60's muscle cars. All the new cars today seem to look alike. :'( I always thought the Big 3 could make replica muscle cars with modern drivetrains and have a hit.

I'm not surprised the new Thunderbirds haven't gone over well. At least they don't appear to have had a great reception. Now, if they had made them to look exactly like the 1955-57 T-Birds...that would have been something. I can only dream!

Re:GTO is coming back.

The GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro from Australia. Holden also makes the Commodore SS that would make a perfect replacement for the Impala SS.
Now if Chrysler would drop in the 5.7 Hemi into the Crossfire, Pacifica and the upcoming Dodge Magnum..... ;D

The GTO is built on the same platform as the junk Catera sittng in my driveway. Sure hope the Aussie do a better job with it.
