Question Grote Per-lux Fog Lights ??

The wife's truck came with these exact lights :

http://www.6066gmcguy.org/perlux200t.htm

I found a similar Per-Lux at 50Watt/20,000CP.

Where can I get the 100Watt/23,000CP like she has ??

I want at least two more pair.

These are GOOD lights.

Thanks.

How about buying a set of the 50 watters and replacing the bulbs with some eye-burners?

It is hard to really tell from their picture, but it appears they have "new and improved" the overall shape of the housing and ditched the stainless louvers in favor of black plastic.

Like anything else good, they discontinue it.

What would the part-number be for the better bulbs ?? Never mind, I answered my own question = #4421 = 23,000CP-12V-100W-Sealed Beam

Where can I find these #4421 bulbs ??

Thanks.

ebay auction #170125120112, $9.95 + shipping. I used them in my Unity 6in Par46 spotlights...until I discovered the GE 4522 sealed beams(13V/250Watt!!). You'll need some major gauge wiring, switches & good batteries/alternator for these! Plus they are like $30ea. Mine are from NAPA and have 'Not for highway - Aircraft use only' printed on the backs. Do you THINK??!! Oh yeah, you probably won't be using the plastic louvers in front of these bulbs either...

I used to have a pair of these 100-watt lamps on my Chevy truck, Per-Lux used to be manufactured here in Covina, Ca. I went to see them and he showed me through the warehouse and of all the different lamps, the sealed beam lamp was unlike a headlamp, it had a sharp trapezoidal pattern beam. I still have them somewhere and I will have to remember where. All of the OTR tractors had them.

I have a set sitting in my garage complete with the 250 watt aircraft landing lights and metal louvers. (Sorry, not for sale)

I'm trying to figure out how to install them on my 2005 in the stock location using the stock headlight switch. Any information would be much appreciated!

I used to use aircraft landing lamps for driving lamps on my Mustang of years gone by and I had a killer lighting system but unfortunately most aircraft lamps have a very short service life.
They turn them on when they land and then they switch on the taxi lights.

The GE #4522 lamp
250 Watt @13 Volts
290,000 MBCP
25 hours Rated Life

Here is the lamp you want to install,

Now this gets me thinking about upgrades.

I am not sure of how to mount them but I would control them using 6gauge wire from the battery and switch them using a 75-amp Bosch Power Relay.

If you were to connect them with the stock switch I feel there would be some smoke showing briefly there after.
Do you recall which lamp you have in them?

Or a 70-amp continuous-duty solenoid triggered by a 30-amp relay.

This should work off of the stock switch/30 amp relay?

70 amps!!! Do these things really draw that much juice??

I got mine from skygeek I'll have to look on them for the specific bulb # but I believe it's the 4522.

The Hid conversion would be an interesting twist....... what kind of amperage do they draw?

Rick

Here is a good Ohms Law calculator.
By plugging in the known 12.0 volts and the 250 watts it gives us 20.8333 amperes per lamp

2 lamps @ 500 watts would be 41.66667 amperes so I think a 75-amp relay would handle it sufficiently.
Too bad you do not have a 24-volt electrical system, and good thing it’s not an old 6-volt system.

I remember the landing lamps I had on my car when you turned them off they did not turn off immediately, it would take a few seconds for the glow to stop and if you stood in front of them you could feel the heat.

The cross reference for the:
GE 4522 13.0 volt 250 watt PAR-46 is the XV-46 35/50 watt = 4.16667 amps

If you like bright lamps and insanely large numbers check this lamp out.

Install this puppy in front of our trucks.

This is a quote from this article.

http://www.hfmgv.org/imax/about.asp

The lamp
The lamphouse on top of the IMAX projector utilizes two 15,000-watt liquid-cooled, short-arc xenon lamps. The lamps weigh 10 pounds each, and are nearly two feet in length. Costing more than $6,000 each, the lamps have a life expectancy of only about 1,200 hours of operation and are replaced 4 times per year. Because of the extreme high-pressure xenon gas inside the quartz glass envelope of the lamp, projectionists must wear ballistic safety gear when changing out a lamp. If dropped, the xenon lamp would explode with the destructive force of a hand grenade.
The average luminance of one of these xenon lamps is approximately 1.6 billion candles per square yard--about equal to that of the Sun as viewed from the Earth's surface! The lamp has a light output of approximately 600,000 lumens. NASA uses this same type of lamp at the Kennedy Space Center to illuminate the Space Shuttle at night on the launching pad.
During normal operation, the clear quartz glass envelope of the lamp has a surface temperature of about 1,300 degrees. To prevent the lamp from overheating, it has coolant "jackets" that allow cool distilled water to be pumped around the electrodes at the flow rate of 8 gallons per minute and a pressure rate of 100 psi. In addition, an exhaust fan removes 1,200 cubic feet of air per minute from the lamphouse. The xenon lamps operate at 37.5 volts DC, and 400 amperes of current.
