KISS MY GRITS ALL YA'LL D--N YANKEES!

Farina, yep, that's it.

For those of you complaining of restaraunt grits........ Of course they arent any good!

Here is my mom's recipe for grits:

Two cups of REGULAR GRITS, NOT INSTANT.

The night before, cover with a 50/50 mixture of milk and water. Let soak overnight in the fridge. Add another cup of 50/50, 1/4 cup of butter, 1tsp. salt. Put in large pot and set stove on low with lid on for about 30 minutes. Check from time to time with a spoon and see if it is sticking to the pan.
Add milk to it as needed to keep it at an oatmeal consistency.
NOW you have some grits!

When I was a kid, mom would take the leftover grits and put them in a loaf pan and let it congeal, the next morning she would slice the grit loaf into 1/2in. slices and grill in butter then cover it with good old Karo syrup.

Sometimes I saute some onions and toss in my grits.... Now thats eatin'.

Yea, I do eat grits now and then, but with all the different ways noted, I think my old grandad beat them all. He liked grits and Lutefisk for breakfast. If you don't know what lutefisk is, you don't want to.

This Noske will just stick with hotcakes, bacon, grits and toast please. Oh yea, pass the eggs please.

In Roger Welsch's book "Diggin' In and Piggin' Out: The Truth About Men and Food" he tells about tossing some leftover lutefisk out in the yard for his two Labs, Lucky and Thud. He says "I thought they might like it. They eat cow poop, for Pete's sake. I tossed the fish into the yard. The dogs sniffed it, circled it, sniffed again, and then...then I got a new assessment of exactly where lutefisk stands on the gastronomic scale: they rolled in it."

Raised in northern Minnesota and I never had Lutefisk. Smelt neither. I'm not even sure people eat smelt, possibly it is just an excuse to do some drinking whilst trying to catch em.

Funny thing about dog's is that they will eat(recycle) their own poop, but turn their nose at stuff you are I may enjoy.

Next time you are out west be sure to try Nopalitos and Prarie Oysters. Nopalitos are fried cactus. If you don't know what Prarie Oysters are - don't ask, some folks call them Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Real grits are great, instant grits are a sick joke.

As far as lutefisk goes, my wife is of scandinavian extraction and in my experience ALL scandinavian meals started as a dare.

Many many years ago I went on a trip to the great Smokey mountains with our 4x4 club. It was a fun time & got to sample lots of good Southern hospitality along with some Southern cooking. It was a big camp out with 4x4 clubs from all over. When in Rome do like the Romans. I tried a little of everyting they had to offer. Didn't much care for the grits, tasted like a mouthful of sand. There were some dishes tho that I can't even remember that were, well lets just say different.
I did get to more than sample some White Lightning along with all the Red Man tobacco that I chewed on I was one sick young kid. Haven't been that drunk since.
Awe the memories.

GRITS, ah crap. Has anyone here ever ate a Fish pizza?? It's no joke, the last time I was in Brazil, we went out for "pizza" and that's what it was. Smelled like dead squid and tasted like that it came from the crapper, but they gobbled it up.
