I don't think it is illegal in Oregon. I thought it was illegal in Washington, but I can't find any law against it. I do think you have to adhere to strict length laws and have a Class A CDL, maybe with Double/Triples endorsement.

This is an e-mail I received from the State of Washington...

Thank you for contacting the Legislative Information Center.

The applicable laws are contained in RCW46.44.047. Here's the link:
http://www.leg.wa.gov/RCW/index.cfm?...action=section

You might also contact the Washington State Patrol for further clarification.

I hope this helps.

And this is what RCW46.44.047 says....

RCW 46.44.036
Combination of units -- Limitation.
Except as provided in RCW 46.44.037, it is unlawful for any person to operate upon the public highways of this state any combination of vehicles consisting of more than two vehicles. For the purposes of this section a truck tractor-semitrailer or pole trailer combination will be considered as two vehicles but the addition of another axle to the tractor of a truck tractor-semitrailer or pole trailer combination in such a way that it supports a proportional share of the load of the semitrailer or pole trailer shall not be deemed a separate vehicle but shall be considered a part of the truck tractor. For the purposes of this section a converter gear used in converting a semitrailer to a full trailer shall not be deemed a separate vehicle but shall be considered a part of the trailer.

Anyone want to translate that for me? I drive truck for a living and I don't understand it. It sounds like only tractor trailers are allowed, but Washington also allows doubles, but not triples.

Hope this clears things up, like mud, right?

I have seen quite a few of these types of rigs around here. Never seen a Cheby or Ferd pulling them though

Just saw a jacked up Ferd with its tail dragging, pulling what looked like a 30 foot toy hauler with a Jeep CJ5 behind that, flying up 101 this morning. Probably headed to Pismo for the weekend.
