there is local guy running around Boise with an 03 sub with a the second generation duramax (sorry dont know chevys letters) in it he had a wrecked donor truck he took the running gear out of. he might have been blowing smoke but he said it was basicly parts changing. everything bolted right in except the air conditioner. I saw it and it looked factory installed ran awsome to.

I have been looking at a 02 4x4 3/4 ton Burb with a 6.0 gas at a local dealer, I want something a little more civilized to travel in.
I think I can grab it for around 13k.
I looked at a couple of excursions and for some reason, I cant get comfortable in them. I don't know if it is just the way it is laid out inside or it's just me.
Plus it's a little lower to get in and out of for the wife.
And I can fit a whole pile of people and stuff in it!
Maybe I am a little biased because i'm a chevrolet guy, but I think the burb is a little nicer of a ride.

I'd vote for the burb too. We looked at the Excursion for the wife but couldn't justify the $$ and quite frankly, I am pretty sick of driving Ford products.
Picked up the 00 GMC Yukon XL and it seems to be pretty tough while having the creature comforts that keep Mrs. Pistol happy (bun warmers).
Good luck with your search.

I guess I'm going to have to price some of the newer models 'burbans, as it seems everyone likes the 5.3 from what I've read here and elsewhere. I'm leaning away from the big block, seems like it's useless unless always pulling something, and even then the mileage doesn't help it's cause at all. Motor will definately be either the Vortec 350 or a 5.3, all dependant on what year I can afford. It seems that the old 6.5 doesn't have as bad of a reputation in the Suburban's also, but the prices are on the extreme side, so I will pass. Thanks for everyone's input on this deal.
On another note, it seems that there would be a good demand for a fullsize Dodge version of a Suburban, I wonder why they never built anything to compete.

If you can find a clean low mile 7.3 X ****** it up. Should get the same MPG as the 5.7/5.3 Subs, will probably last longer, and is sure not to lose value as fast as the gasser chevy.

Right you are, and therein lies the problem, too. They hold their value too well, I simply can't a afford a $20k plus SUV at this point. I can get Suburbans for half that, same year and with less miles. I'm not losing as much as if I bought new, which is the main reason I consider it at all.

Sounds like you made your choice. The subs are great vehicles. My guess is the X's will continue to grow in value and develop a cult following similar to the early broncos and fj40 cruisers.
