CIN's right, there's a time and place. Like using racing cut outs on the street, there not made for that. Is doing burn outs in a garage irrisponsible, problably not. But say some kid was doing them in a car and threw up a rock and cracked your windshield, he's not being irrisponsible, he didn't know. It's one of those things that aggrivates ya later, if somebody throws something or somebody else having a good time, ruins yours.

Kinda like me racing dirtbikes, I still ride, but i quit racing for the fact that the girl of my dreams wants me to be around to start a family. That is much more important to me than killing myself in my next MX accident (and the first one nearly did kill me) What I learned was what is really important to me.

Also even though we live in the USA. use the word Free very carefully

Sounds like you learned something. Next time don't get caught.... Car alarms are annoying, but you can't get rid of or mess with everything that annoys you. If I did that there would be a lot less stupid people around...

For crying out loud Ripper01, come on. You really don't think you were being disrespectful? People park in these garages and walk to their places of Employment. When they hear car alarms they think that someone has probably broken into there vehicle. What part of that is not hurting anyone? Not physically. Think about it.I'm sure all of those people that alarms were going off Work their behind off for what they have too!!You may not want to listen to this but pay your ticket instead of trying to get out of it. Have a great day!!! Cin

I can see both sides on this one. First off, it's a pretty safe bet that 99% of us have been in a similar position at one time or another. I know I used to drive too fast, do burn outs in the high school parking lot, run with open headers, etc, etc. I don't agree with doing burn outs in a parking garage, but I'm sure everybody likes to hear the roar of their exhaust in underpasses or parking garages. Maybe roll out of the garage in first gear at 2000 rpms? And you'd be going at most maybe 15 mph??? Now on the other side is say you're going faster than that and the little kid steps out to see the truck (harley, hotrod, whatever) that's making the cool noise. Then what happens? There's a big possibility of hitting a person or possibly somebody's car, or even just the concrete. Either way it's no good.

After reading a lot of the responses to the original post it seems like everybody came down fairly hard on the guy. Which is right, what he did was irresponsible, but maybe we all could have tried to see where he was coming from and offered the "grow up" advice with some diplomacy. I know that it's important to be safe and responsible, but I've seen people ignore that advice just because of the way it was presented.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I agree with those that told him to take the responsibility for his actions. I just don't think that 3 pages of posts flaming the guy is the best way to get the point across... My $.02

Well, said. It is real easy to forget that we all learn things the hard way. This site is much better than most, but there are times when we all need to consider the person on the other end.

THANK YOU AMOS BUT I DO BELEIVE THEY WERE ALL IN THEIR RIGHT.. THEY MIGHT HAVE COME DOWN ON ME HARD BUT LIKE THEY SAY I HAVE TO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.. ALSO YOUR RIGHT MOST PEOPLE CANT DENY THE FACT OF DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR BEING IN THE WRONG I KNOW I HAVE BEEN IN THAT SITUATION BEFORE.. I AGREE WITH THE FACT OF A KID COMING OUT TO SEE WHAT COOL THINGS OR WHAT THING IS MAKING ALL OF THAT NOISE.. I DO LIKE THE SOUND OF MY EXHUAST AND I HAD WAITED ALL DAY TO HEAR IT AND I WAS LEAVING FROM THE FARMERS MARKET HERE IN RENO SO MOST OF THE PEOPLE HAD BEEN DRINKING BEING MORE IRRESPONSIBLE THAN ME AND NOT AT WORK. IN WHICH DOESNT MAKE MY MISTAKE RIGHT AND NOT BETTER BUT LESS THAN DRINKING AND DRIVING... I GARRANTEE YOU 4 OUT OF 10 HAD BEEN DRUNK THAT NIGHT SO IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOME DRUNK GUY FALLING OUT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK... BUT I WAS DOING LESS THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR IN MY TRUCK BECAUSE I HAD IN IN FIRST IDLING AND FOOT ON BRAKE AND CLUTCH WITH THE OCCASIONAL REV IT WASNT LIKE REV REV REV DOING 20 MPH OUT OF THE GARAGE I WAS DRIVING LIKE A HUMAN BEING WITH A SENSE OF RESPONSIBLITY JUS BEING IMATURE REV TO SEE WHAT CAR ALARM I WOULD SET OFF AFTER THE FIRST ONE AND FOR THAT I WAS IN THE WRONG.. LIKE I SAID IN MY ORIGINAL POST I WASNT PEELING OUT IN THE GARAGE WHAT HAPPENED WAS SOME GUY CAME HUALIN AROUND A CORNER WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT SO TO AVOID HIM HITTING ME IN MY NEW TRUCK I POPPED THE CLUTCH REAL QUICK TO GET OUT OF HIS WAY... NOW HOW IS THAT IN THE WRONG!!!!

I like setting off car alarms,I don't have to rev up my truck to do it.Just put it in first and about 2000 rpm's.....That normally does the trick

OK, I've counted to 10 several times now and even waited over 24 hours before replying - can I comment?

I actually started to reply when Ripper first posted but decided to hold off. I do want to comment on the issue of disrespect. I, personally, find it disrespectful for those with car alarms to set them so sensitive that a vehicle driving by will set them off and disturb everyone else. No offense Cin, but if I set my alarm so that a Harley driving by will set it off, it's my problem, not his. That said, I do agree with taking responsibility for ones actions but also don't believe in giving law enforcement carte blanche. It almost sounds like Ripper was cited for something that the officer heard but didn't see. If that's the case, an explanation to the appropriate authorities may resolve the issue. The flip side of that is that you don't want to admit to a more serious offense than you are already cited for (out of the frying pan - into the fire). IMHO, a visit with an attorney may be in order.

Just my $0.02 worth.

LIKE I SAID EARLIER... IM NOT TAKING IT AS A BASHING SESSION ITS MORE OF AN OPINATED TALK YES I WAS IRRESPONSIBLE I WHAT I WAS DOING BUT FOR THE FACT OF THE COP WAITING OUT SIDE OF THE PARKING GARAGE BEFORE PULLIN ME OVER THEN TELLING ME I WAS BURNING OUT IN WHICH HE NO SIGHT EVEN INTO THE GARAGE.. YES I WAS REVING BUT NOT PEELING OUT THATS ALL IM SAYING.. I WAS IN FIRST GEAR GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH JUS HAVING FUN GETTING READY FOR THE NEXT LONG WORK DAY PROBALY JUS LIKE MOST OF THE FOLKS ON HERE.. I TOOK THIS EXPERIENCE AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE I CANT TAKE IT AS ANYTHING ELSE.. CIN ALL YOUR DOING IS PUTTING YOUR 2 CENTS IN SO IT DOESNT RATTLE ME ONE BIT BUT I DO LISTEN TO THE YOUR OPINION ON THINGS.. IM NOT TRYING TO DETOUR AWAY FROM MY ACTIONS THAT NIGHT BUT FOR THE FACT OF THE POLICE OFFICER NOT SEEING ONE THING THAT NIGHT THEN CITING ME FOR SOMETHING I DIDNT NOT DO IS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT IN MY EYES... DISURBING THE PEACE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER TICKET FOR ME.. AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE EXEPTING TO THAT TICKET AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE UNDERSTANDING IN MY OPINION.. BUT SO FAR I HAVENT HAD THE CHANCE TO REALLY DO MY RESEARCH ON THAT PARTICULAR GARAGE TO SEE IF IT IS OWNED BY THE CITY OR PRIVATE.. THERE WAS NO CHARGE TO PARK IN THERE BUT I DONT KNOW... BUT TO YOU CIN NO WORRIES MAN I LIKE PEOPLES OPINIONS IT MAKES THIS SITE THAT MUCH MORE INTERESTING AND MORE OF A LEARNING EXPERIENCE....

That was my thoughts exactly. First I want to voice my opinion on what you did, I love to set off alarms. Its harmless and hurts nobody.

If the parking garage was not city, but privately owned, they have no jurisdiction and no right to give you a ticket unless the owner presses charges. Not a hard one to get out of if you ask me.

I got caught in the same situation at work. The owner of our company is a car buff and owns some exotic type sports cars so he has no problem with us burrning off a little excess rubber in the parking lot at the end of the day. Me and another guy did a pretty good job one night of smoking up the lot before leaving work, but there was a cop on the side street beside the lot that saw us and pulled up to the fence and said we shouldnt do that. I asked what it hurt and his answer was " you just dont need to do it" . I said what ever and my buddy, who never got out of the car to hear what he had to say, performed another sweet burnout before pulling up to the shop. We got our stuff gathered up and about 30 minutes later left the shop. Well, about one mile down the road, it looked like OJ during his "running" from the law episode. Cops every where! We both pulled over. They said that there was some type of discrepency with our tags They went over oour vehicles with basicaly a side of the road inspection and came up with nothing. They even checked parking brakes They went back to there cars and were basicaly just harassing us at this point. They held us up for an hour and 45 minutes. My buddy relized there was an abundance of police cars and being the witty quick thinking individual he is told the next one to come back up to his car, " You know, when you go home every night and watch the news only to hear about another rape or murder, they ask the police what the problem is. The answer that is always given is we're under manned. we do a couple of burn outs in our vehicles on private property and there are 16 officers on the scene??" Thats right, 16 police officers came to this call. Man what a night. We dont get harassed by them any more when doing burn outs in the parking lot.
