GM layoff's, Ford recalls, DC 1 Million new buyers
Finally gald to hear DC making good on what they had planned for the future. DC bring on the Mega Cab, SRT-10, Dakota SRT (Opps... let the cat out of the bag on that one), SRT-4, Charger SRT, Magnum SRT, 300C SRT and Crossfire SRT.
As for GM let them rot. I am a former chevy owner who felt they got too proud of their lame extremely overpriced line up of vehicles. Sorry GM, but bragging about having the most quad cab trucks and SUV's is'nt paying off is it. They dont seem to understand folks know a Daewoo (Aveo), when they see it. GTO what a joke, they are so reliant on someone else making their cars that they cant make something original. Then they entice folks with their concept cars only to build it and have it not look or perform as expected. i.e (SS Silverado, SSR, SS Monte carlo and SS Impala). Seems to me the only person who got a good deal out of this was Bob Lutz who for some reason gets to keep many of GM's performance concepts.
And Ford, recall them all, never liked them anyway. One wish Ford, Please sell more mustangs, so you can rub it in GM's face. (Sorry Camaro/Firebird fans).

the new ford mustang GT 500 is going to have in the area of 450-500 horsepower.
the new age of muscle is coming back.
thats with the super charger on the engine running at 8 PSI, supposedly the engine can handle 15 psi, MEANING if you get the supercharger tuned up, the engine will be able to push over 550 + horsepower no problem
ALSO, they have the regular cobra, which is going to be of the same breed
Ford is a dominator in the new age
I feel the exact same as you Banshee. GM is a let down, but ford is one hell of a step ahead of chrysler and GM, since they are listening to some of what people really want.
CHevy has an over priced corvette.... pfft, so what if it puts out huge horsepower, its over priced :/
Chrysler has the viper... more overpriced than the corvette :/
Right now ford is winning my favor...

Ford a dominator?? I don't exactly see Fords flying off the lots at the moment.
You only mentioned the Mustang but what about the rest of the lineup? Where's Fords four door hotrods?

Mustang GT 500? What kind of car is that? The cobra is already supercharged and they have yet to find the limitations. Ford says 1000 hp is the limit but there are people pushing 1500 on the stock engines. 550 hp is nothing. The new vette is still the best bang for the buck. For the money you pay for one, it's the best all around car. The viper is way to much for a car that can only go fast in a straight line and is so unforgiving on the corners. I'll agree with you on the GTO, SSR, SS Silverado, Impala, and Malibu. What a joke. I'd give ford more credit if they would actually build an all motor 500 hp car. But all they do is supercharge them. The general and chrysler have them beat at that. The new Z06 is a 500hp 427. The viper is a 500vp V10. The cobra is a 450hp supercharged DOHC. The ford GT is a 500hp supercharged 5.4 DOHC. And who wants a mustang. There's so many of them out there. Another problem with ford is they keep making all of these specialty vehicles and only do so many of them. Like the GT. Only produced a few hundred or thousand and they cost 6 figures. The cobra R is a joke. Who wants to pay $40k+ for a car with no AC/Radio/Sound deadning/back seat and can only hang with a C5 much less a C6 or Z06. I'm sorry, but ford's line up is a joke. I agree that they are listening more to what the people want. The new mustang is promising but time will tell about it. I really want GM to bring back the Camaro and stomp the ever living crap out of the mustang (I'm a chevy guy). Chrysler needs to come out with something that can compete with the mustang/camaro market. The viper is in a class all of it's own but the only thing they have to compete with is ferrari's, porsche's, and the Z06. Not exactly cheap cars that you see every day. I'm stepping off my soap box now.

Easy bout the mustang coments bubba me and my dad bought 3 cars together...one is a 2004 mach 1 mustang...soon to be modded, one is a 69 ss camaro in black 396, and the other is a tri-power GTO.............u can say ive been round all the brands so im not really biased. I think no matter what motor the car has....if it can run with, and pass the big dogs, let it I think the new Vette gets a little too much attention and praise, but W/E floats ur boat. The Viper is a serious death wish as far as speed lol....the Stang is comin back i think..........altho i agree with the fact the General has been making some really Joke worthy products of late Believe me, i love all muscle cars regardless no roasts intended,

1500hp on a stock engine! No way! Even the supercharged 5.4L in stock form is know to spit out sparkplugs on the Lightnings.
My buddy found the limit on a 4.6L DOHC 32v engine in his Cobra with a Vortech supercharger. The engine grenaded on the dyno while being tuned, about 440hp. Cost about $10k for the rebuild and to handle 450hp.

You can all say what you want about high hp vehicles. It might just be the ones that make economical vehicles and at this point lacking behind that might be the ones ahead when this fuel price increase is over. I don't see as many vehicle being sold in the past few months that has been in the past. Maybe just the time of year and new models ready to come out but fuel prices are surely going to play into what people buy.

MikeyB, what year was your buddy's cobra? I'm guessing pre supercharged era and if I'm correct, it's no surprise that he shattered it. The pistons are made of glass and the block are aluminum. If it was a factory supercharged engine (which I'm guessing it wasn't if he put a vortech on it) then his car was built late on a friday night.

Yeah. He had the hyperutec (sp) pistons in there. Those are known to be very weak. MTI does killer work. I didn't think they worked on stangs though. I thought only chevy. Reason I say this is because my friend took his stang there to dyno it and they turned him down because it was a ford. I know they installed the exhaust on the vette and will be doing headers on it end of the year. And then when I get it, twins.

UHHHHH, let's see.................300C and Magnum look cool, don't know how they drive, but all the SRT vehicles are way overpriced - $50 grand for a SRT10 and you complain about C6 Vette at $45G? the SRT10 is only a couple tenths quicker in the quarter than a Lightning SRT4 is fwd only, and by the time you spend the money to get real power, you could have bought a Lancer EVO or WRX STI and had all wheel drive. I agree that GM has no clue for about the last, oh, 30 years or so. The last real car they built was the LS6 Chevelle/El Camino. At least they are putting the 400HP engine in the GTO now, when they first came out they had 350 in their bad new musclecar, and the Cadillac sedan had 400 My biggest problem with cars is nobody makes 'em for real, er, tall people like me. That's why I drive a truck! No offense meant to those vertically challenged persons

I agree with Banshee. GM's ignorance has killed them. I loved GM, but they got too proud of their lineup and never really started to advance on anything. They come out with a nice vehicle and left it for 15 years. Now that mentality has caught up with them. Old looks, higher prices and now they can't give them away. The only lineup I like of Ford is the the Bad- A@@ Mustang. Now, in my opinion, they did a nice job on that. The only thing about muscle cars coming back, I think the oil prices will have an impact on that. People are already looking to start pinching their economy. This no doubt will hurt sales on vehicles rated 14 - 18 mpg's. SUV sales have already began to swell dealer lots, huge discounts on them, and they are still not moving. Being in the DFW area and in TX overall, these vehicles hardly stayed on the lot. Another challange is now on the horizon for the Big 3. There was a nice article on the Big 3 getting killed by the foreign competition. Now, what used to be a foriegn vehicle, plants are popping up left and right in the US and with that, they are building savvy vehicles with better fuel economy @ a better price. The article also mentioned that, while GM and Ford have posted declines, DC has posted gains. Much of DC's gains were due to new vehicles introduced into DC's lineup, specifically, the 300 and Magnum. We will see how this all pans out in the near future.
