Generator question
Does anyone know if it is necessary to fire up a propane generator each month, for normal maintenance, like it is for gasoline?

It is not critical like the gas or diesel. I make sure I fire mine at least once every two months - - start it unloaded, run for a couple minutes, load it (AC unit), run for about 15 minutes, then unload for 3 or 4 and shut it off. No liquid fuel to evaporate or gell up in the carb - - sooooo much easier to maintain.

The generator still needs to be started and run at half load every month or two to keep the generator head working.
My natural gas powered Kohler standby generator for the house automatically starts every week and runs for 20 minutes. Once a week seems excessive but the transfer switch doesn't have any adjustment for that.
I try to run the gasoline powered generator in my RV once a month but I sometimes get lazy when it is 0 degrees outside. I think it is really hard on the motor to start at those temps anyhow. Onan says to use 15W-40 oil which is pretty thick for winter.
