i did, downloaded avg, uninstalled all norton, tried to install avg, no go. Had to go back to norton for some protection. thanks though

If your computer is behind a router like a linksys, dlink, etc then you don't need to run a software firewall. Your machine is using a non routable, private IP address and can't be hit from the outside without specifically going into the router and telling it to do port forwarding. All of these routers are doing NAT (Network Address Translation) out of the box and this is how they work. The address that hits the DTR webserver when you view this isn't the IP of your machine, its the IP of your router.

Software firewalls on Windows have a high overhead and most people are behind routers anyway.
