Pets who are family members are always hard on ya when you lose them.
We lost our black lab (aka SyDog) a while back. While protecting the 40 from nasty critters, he got tagged by a coppermoccasin. He had been bitten several times before and recovered without any problem. This one got him in the neck and, I'm guessing, got a major blood vessel. Either way, it was quick.
I do have a great deal on some barn cats. Multicolored. Buy none, get them all FREE. (Cat food and maybe a 4" down pipe and some other exhaust stuff thrown in)

Bruce, If ya throw in the barn too ... and it's a deal regardless of how many cats ya pawn off on me !!! I have no idea how many cats we have these days. The keep getting fed and then multiply. You'd think they were rabbits.
Supposedly, Mrs. Pistol has given the eldest son instructions to do something with the extra dogs that managed to follow him home from time to time. He hasn't ever bothered to take care of them ... just given them a place to live and a full time catering crew !! Gotta love that boy !

Sorry to hear that Pistol, my mom called me today and told me they had to put down our black lab earlier today, she was having problems with her respitory system over the weekend, and it never cleared up. She was 16 years old

Awww ... sorry to hear that as well. It seems like there have been several of us that have lost our buddies lately. You know, some people really don't understand how bad it affects a person. Flash is the same age as my youngest son ... and I have probably played with him just as much as my boy, fed them both, cleaned up after them, comforted them when they didn't feel well, taught them both ... and I would be a total basket case if I were to lose my son.
Shortround ... the way your pup went is what I fear happened to Flash. I just hope it happened fast and that there wasn't much pain.
Of course ... he very well could've found a sweet thing in the next hollar and decided to stick around for a while !!

Treasured Friend
I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
His gentle head upon my knee
And share his silent thoughts with me...
He'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more his favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called him to His golden throne.
Although my eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let him spend down here with me
And for his love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join him there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For he will greet me with his bark.

This is great Poem to ease the pain
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

PistolWhipt,
Sorry about your loss. Sounds like Flash and you were great friends. I lost my buddy just about a year ago. He was a special friend also...almost a four legged human. I have two others, but I still miss Harley each day when I come home and he's not there at the door.
Well, others mentioned the Rainbow Bridge, and that just might be where we meet up with them again.
