Firestik Antennas and mounts

Just wonderin how many of you are using the Firestik fender mount for CB antennas and what type of stud mount and cable are you using.
I just put a Uniden PC78LTW in my truck with 2 four foot Firestik antennas mounted with the fender mounts. I bought coax with the PL 259 connectors on it and much to my surprise when it came time to hook them up,, the connectors were too long to hook up to the antenna without hitting the fender. I went and bought the coax with the old type connectors (Ring and spade) and it seems to work ok other than my SWRs are higher with this cable. I see where Firestik makes the Firering connectors, is anyone using this type of connection? What kind of luck have you had with them. Are there any other connectors available to use in a location with limited clearance under the stud mount for the antenna?

Thanks
Keith

Yes.
Yes, and yes.

I have dual 4ft firesticks fender mounted, with Firestik's Dodge fender mount.
I ordered everything directly from Firestik,
and they recomended the dual co-phased harness with the Firering connectors.
(the cables come with the little connectors to feed through the firewall,
then you connect to a "Y" that has the PL-259).
It comes with special studs, made for the ring.

I seem to have good enough reception and talk ability.
My SWR is right below 2.0 (if I remember right) not optimum, but liveable.
Tuning dual antennas is a pain, and it took me a while to get it that low.

The Firering and Ring/spade connectors are the only thing I can think of for limited clearance installation.

www.firestik.com

They don't officially have ordering direct from the factory.
I don't have the phone number anymore, but.

They have a link for local dealers, I clicked on that and was given Flying J and some other truckstop.

I emailed them saying neither of those places had what I was looking for,
and they replied with a direct order phone number.

Called up armed with part numbers, and they had revised numbers and suggestions that would work better.
Actually spent less than I thought I was going to, due to thier recomendations.

I use the under the hood firestik mount... or whatever it's called. Mounted on the drivers side, makes it look like another stereo antenna. ;D

Anybody have any thoughts on the Firestik II antennas? They're user-tunable.

There's one other mount type you can use; NMO. Firestik makes a fender model with this hole configuration. The underside of the Motorola develpoed NMO mount is a right angle affair and is low profile; made primarily for roof or trunk applications. I know of one manufacturer that makes NMO antennas for CB applications, and that's Radiall-Larsen. The antenna can be easily removed from the mount and replaced with a rain cap if desired. Here's a picture of my 10 meter ham antenna. The coil for CB applications looks almost identical. You can see all of the room beneath the antenna mount.

I ordered my firestik stuff directly from firestik. Just give them a call. They are awesome about discussing your system and setting you up right. I was very pleased with their service.

Their number is:

I use the extended stake pocket mount from firestick. My SWR is under 1.4 on all 40 channels. Checkout my gallery.

Is anybody with the dual fender-mount firestick antennas running stacks also? I want dual antennas because I like a balanced look, always loved twin fiberglass whip. I know it would be better having a big single ss whip on my roof, but it's not what I want.

I was thinking of mounting them right on the front side of my toolbox between that and my rear window, in far enoug to clear the stacks when I put those in. I saw someone here who had stacks w/ twin whips, it didn't look too bad.

Would fender-mount antennas with stacks look too tacky?

I'm running dual stacks with dual whips mounted just inside the stacks. Definately need to get the puppies tuned.

Good mounts. Do not interfere with anything, which is a plus since I have a toolbox. I've had no problems with mine.
