My long distance rides right now is with my wife to a place called Homer AK, to go on Halibut charters. My buddy brings his goldwing and trailer, to haul back the 200lbs + of fish back with us LOL- about 300 miles each way.

Having babies right now pretty much puts the kabosh on motorcycle vacations- it is why I am restoring the coronet in the pic. That is the reference pic of me and my son. he was 1 in the pic.

I won't ask you to show us how you get to 21.

You must be a real hoot at the Black Jack tables.

About that v4 if Harley had made that your right we wouldn't be having this conversation. The resale you keep refering to would be zilch and people wouldn't hate them so much. About the 30 mpg at 65. My wife and I and enough clothes for 9 days running 80mph for 3800 miles were getting 35 mpg +. So I'm guessing the useless Harley you keep talking about is a little more efficent then the almighty Honda. Harley has torture tested the twin cam motors for 100000 miles + I personally know people that have over that without a problem. So people that want to make Harley's out as over priced junk had better check a little better about their facts. I put over 20000 miles a year on mine I don't know alot of brand X people that do! If you have owned and experienced something and had bad luck then you have a right to bash it but if you are speaking out of ignorance keep it to yourself.

All kidding aside, I think you may actually be right, a couple of my V4 friends are saying that thier Harleys sometimes get better milieage/ My Sportster 1200 never did get that great (WHAT, you owned a harley once? LOL ) But one guy did said this on the V4 site as well:
It is very possible, my best bud rides a 1997 Road King with Branch heads and pretty tricked out at 90 HP and almost 100 Torque and still gets between 42-45 MPG and my Magna gets between 36-40 mpg

I have bought, collected and traded both bikes and cars- I like Mopars and V4 hondas the most, due to form and function.

No one will ever convince me that a harley is the best bike, or a camaro with a small block is the coolest, fastest best car, though many have tried and I have owned both LOL

Ride what you want= your money after all, and it is a free country. However, the only "brand snobbishness" I have ever seen being rude at an all bike event has always been the Harley guys/ and I go to everyone I can make.

None of the guys that have harleys I ride with get as good as milieage as me when we go on long cruises, so it must be a combo of rider and bike.

CR, its good to see you're back from lala land: Cycle Worlds 139 is a far cry from your personal best of 176. hehehehe

I know you're trying real hard to justify yourself, and its a pretty grainy pic, but is that a HD?, or is that a metric V-twin? (still thinking you may be flirting with lala land).

Is it safe to remove the waders?

Brand bashing gets everyone no-place since I'm a dealer and builder of America V-Twins I see and talk with many riders of both America and Metric motorcycles.....the name of the game is to ride what you can afford because the wind that hits your face is the same wind for America or Metric riders

I don't really care for Harley's that much anymore even tho I own many of them.....I'm a Grey beard Harley rider and I even get snubbed by the Harley dealership salesmen when I walk in, why because I look and talk like a old time Harley rider and I scare the salesmen

But since I have a independent motorcycle repair shop I fix Metrics too.....One of my biggest peeves is all the plastic they put on Metrics to cover up the engines and the cost of parts to repair them, metric are harder to repair mostly because of the way they are built....and over all metric need repairs about the same amount as america bikes

I'm a member of Southern Cruisers Riding Club and many of our members ride Metric motorcycles when we stop for ride breaks theres no brand bashing because we share a common intrest....."the Freedom of the wind in your face is a great medicine for the stress of our lives"

All bashing and junk aside I agree with most....just ride what you got or what you want. I only need my two modes of transportation; my Ram, and my '77 'oldwing. But when it comes to the scoot, almost traded her in once, for a 01 GL1800 (bought the Ram instead...better choice) but I've ridden a few Harley's around a bit, and a lot of other V-Twins... I'll stick with my wing. That opposed 4 just won't stop running, until i run it outta gas again.... Best of all, she's the only scoot I've had that starts up on the first try every spring after setting through these long northern winters. But in reality just in numbers weight/HP ratio I don't think there are too many of our trucks that will flat out run away from her from a stop, many may walk away in a cloud of smoke, but too much advantage to a decent powered bike from the hole to at least 80mph.

Dave

BTW the %@$@'d looks from the HD guys when they find out they were spanked by a stock 25yo ricer are priceless.

This thread is really making me rue the day I sold my 1982 V45 Sabre.
Probably could have gotten alot more out of it with some of the info provided herein.

I still want my next bike to be a Harley.
Days of fast, hunched over, weaving in and out of traffic are gone.
Now it's just enjoying the wind, travelling the speed limit.
My 1998 Honda Shadow A.C.E does it pretty well though.
