Farmall Cub questions

So a friend's got a little Cub that he wants to send down the road, but he's not sure what all he's got. I'm going to start another thread on YTMAG, but I know there's a feller or two on here that's got a tractor This thing appears to be completely un-molested and has what appears to be a factory McCormick hard top. Never seen one, but it sure looks factory or period aftermarket. It's got a McCormick grader blade, touch control lift, and a cordwood saw with belt and pulley. Original 6V setup that all functions. ALL lights work off the original switch---including high and low beam headlights! Runs like a top. No smoke, plenty of power. 1st gear is noisy, all others are fine. Whaddya think? Where should he market it--flea-bay, ytmag etc etc? It's got some original service manuals as well. The hard top is what's killing me--never seen such an animal. Well, here's the pics, she's barn fresh--enjoy!

edit: Oh, there's a lot of white paint under the red...anybody think there's a chance it's an ultra-rare 1950 demonstrator?

Is NY any where near OR? If so, would he be interested in swapping for a nice Massey Harris Pony? I was looking for a Cub and gave up and bought the Pony.

Does the red cover the white on the rest of the tractor or just the sheet metal? If it covers the white on the complete tractor, I would have to think it is a demonstrator model.

Whats the SN? If it is SN 99356 to SN 106516, it will be a demonstrator model. If you do not have the SN, Try looking for a letter L on the clutch-tube housing. It should be in an upside down position to the rest of the numbers. I guess the L was only on the demonstrator model's.

Thanks for the info. I see white coming through on the entire tractor...which is what caught my attention. Where do I find the serial on a Cub? Sure is a cool little tractor. I like my super-A better-1/3 more tractor with 2x the engine but, from a collectors standpoint, I guess the Cubs are quite desireable.

It is junk, I will take it off your hands J/K

If it is a demo model, that would also explain the hard top. Also the buzz saw is a VERY rare attachment! From the pics and info you gave me, try to sell it on YTMAG first. It should go for 5-6 grand on these conditions that you say and the extras. Just the tractor alone is going for 2-3 grand on E-Rape. Only sell on ebay if you or him are desperate. The tires are the original 45* bars, another aspect that makes it more collectable. Those wheel weights are a great extra on those tractors.

Edit: Check for the number on the clutch housing on the tractors left side, that is where it is on my H.

WOW! Send it my way, it is junk

Well, got the serial# scrounged up this evening, and it falls into the 1950 category. As I understand it, each dealer got 1 of each model in 1950 in white in honor of the IH 1/2 century mark. If that's so, then there was one white Cub for every dealer in 1950. How many dealers? 100? 200? Not too many when compared to how many Cubs were produced overall in 1950. A pretty rare bugger if it checks out. In any event, it's a neat bit of history and pretty fun to drive around, too!

My suggestion, keep it. It will be worth more 5 years down the road or when your truck needs something

I would likely keep it, but it belongs to a buddy and he's pretty much ready to send it down the road

You might want to post it on FarmallCub.com. One of the best Internet forums and dedicated to Farmall Cub collectors (my other hobby). The guys on FarmallCub.com know everything there is to know about Cubs, so if you have any questions it's a great place to post them

http://farmallcub.com

I'll cross post a link to this forum, they'll love the photos. Best of luck selling the Cub, it's a beauty! :-) I have photos of my Cubs on my personal site, http://cubcollector.com.
