Don .... sorry for your loss. Like was said before, he got to go at a time and way of his choosing. He was with the people who loved him and he got to say goodbye. A man can't ask for more than that.
God bless you, buddy.
Cheers,
PISTOL

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
My condolences to you and your family Don. Even being prepared, it is never easy. Sounds like he got to go HIS way and you can't really ask for more than that. Give the wife a big long hug.

Thank you for all the replies!! We had Dads funeral yesterday at the national cemetery for Dallas/Ft Worth. It was a very good service and the cemetery is a beautiful place.
For those who do not know about the Patriot Guard Riders I feel I must make a comment about them. My wife and I requested to have them present for the service. These guys are the best. They ask for no money and are mostly volunteers and never get paid enough to cover their personal expenses. Most are Vietnam Vets and love their Harley Davidson bikes. Some of their missions have been to stand between the families and those fruitcake protesters who show up to say horrible things to the family members of the fallen. These guys are solid, tough, and fearless while remaining caring and extremely respectful. I have some of the photos they took that I will post below.
There were way too many funerals yesterday. Old Vets are dying at a brisk pace and the kids coming home to be buried is humbling. Every 20 minutes there were 3 separate services going on all day yesterday.
You wont see many photos of the family in the Patriot Guard links I will provide. The took over 300 photos, but out of respect they only post photos of themselves publicly and they send us private links of the family. There was not a dry eye there and some may not want their sad photos all over the net.
Seeing 30 plus flags flying and the Patriot Guard there when we arrived for the service is just the best.

I also have a lot of respect for the Patriot Guard.
They showed up in town when we were having a service for a veteran, mostly because there was word the Westboro Baptist Church might show up.
I spoke to a couple of them, and was impressed. They were there with the permission of the family, and are well organized and made sure every member knew the wishes of the family as far as where they should be and what they should do.
Fortunately the WBC didn't show. For those who don't know who they are,

I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!
Don,
Obviously the loss of a great man, I only hope that someday I have made the impression on my family that he did on yours. Obviously he raised a fine group of individuals who stood by his side to the very end and even a bit beyond.
The greatest tribute to your father is you and your family sir.
God Bless You.
