Thanks everyone!!!!
Well, its working! He is sitting up and somewhat talking now. This is huge turnaround.
His brother came to see him yesterday. They have been at odds for nearly 40 years and have had little to say to one another that entire time. I cant describe what it was like to see my wife's dad cry like that. He was quite happy to see his brother. Over the the past 20 years I would be breaking up a fist fight between the two. This is another huge positive change.
He is different somehow. He knows he nearly croaked and this has made a profound change in him.

I wish I had some better news, but my father in law passed away this morning around 7:30. My wife has been by his side since Friday afternoon.
He wanted to go. He was tired of hospitals and getting better just to turn around and get bad again. He told us all goodbye Friday and went to sleep Friday night and never regained consciousness. He got to die at home like he wanted. We are glad for that.
The VA is helping us with the arrangements to get him buried at the national cemetery in Ft Worth. We are all feeling a little relieved the worst is over. It has been a roller coaster of ups and downs.
Thanks to all. (-:

Prayers to your family ......
It sounds like he picked and chose his battles, tied up some loose ends, and passed on to the other side the way he wanted.
We should all be blessed enough to do the same.

Sorry to read this, but hopefully now he is in a much better place. In a way I envy him, being able to tie up the loose ends, say goodbye and then just go in his sleep. Hope I can do the same one day.
It's rough, this too will pass, but thankfully the memories remain.

Sorry for your loss Don, but my wife works at a dialysis center and it's a hard life to live, some of those people are in there every-other day for 4 hours a day, can you emagine, and then thay can't drink much water or nothing, it's hard letting someone close go but in my right mind now i would have a hard time doing dialysis. I think i would just let the good Lord take me home.
