ECZEMA - Wifes got and its freaking her out - Help!

I seen the Gout post and figured.....hey! Maybe you guys or gals can help my wife.

She just got back from the Doc (specialist) and he said it's official you have ECZEMA. He told her there is no cure just ways of dealing with it. She did go to another doctor first and he gave her some prescription ointments that were a little pricey......did not work. She has it on her finger tips and around the perimeter of her heels. She has bought and tried about everything you could think of for dry skin. From booteys you wear at night to sauve and stuff that smells like horse linemint. Help! somebody please help me help her. I could only hope someone here has or knows of a ancient chinese or grandmas treatment for this that works.

Get some vitamin E gel caps, cut open and apply to the affected area.

This helped my grandfather.

I feel for her. I had it when I was young and the doctor said that there was a 50/50 chance it would go away when I reached puberty. I guess I was really lucky. It's been long enough ago that I don't remember it very well, but I do remember it could really be irritating. I used to have outbreaks on my face all the time. It would actually hurt when it got dry enough that the skin would crack. I used some very expensive prescription salve. It would help a little. Like I said, I really feel for her. Wish I knew of something that would help.

I am going to pass on what I hope will be the answer to your wife's prayers.
I had it on both elbows for years. It was very embarrassing as I was in the public eye. I tried everything and nothing worked. My wife and I were in Europe and our Italian tour guide noticed it and said "I know a cure for that", as he walked past. Later he took me to an Italian pharmacy and bought me a small box of sea salt. He told me to wet enough tissue to cover the affected area, squeeze excess water out of the tissue Then sprinkle enough of the salt on the tissue to cover one side of the tissue. Then put the sea salt side of the tissue against the affected area. Leave it on about an hour or so at a time. I did this most every night while watching the tube. At first it seemed to agravate it as it turned a darker red and burned a little. After about a month it started to disappear and within 3 months it was completely gone. That was 8 years ago and it never came back. Let me know if it works for her and if so, let other people know.

Fluocinonide cream or ointment, USP, 0.05% works great! This is the generic version of Lidex, about $20 for a 60 gram tube. I get an eczema outbreak on my knuckles and wrists a few times a year and this stuff takes care of it within days. Hope this helps!

Ouch looks like it can be painful. Hopefully the sea salt works. My wife has used dead sea salt on her dried skin and swears by it.

Well maybe this is flukey I don't know.

When my sister was a child, she had Eczema and some doctors told my parents that is was caused by a reaction to cow's milk.

Therefore, we were raised on Goats Milk, her eczema cleared up and never came back.

Anyone else heard of this?

I've had Eczema for years its like living with Poison-Ivy 24-7. It helps a little if I take warm instead of hot showers and use Aveno Excema body wash. Winter time is the worse, going from cold to hot drives my skin crazy.

Well I'm meat & potato. She is more the opposite and likes all the green veggi type stuff with a little meat. I would say normal 3 square eats and to be nice a little overweight

I have atopic dermatitis which is essentially the same thing. I've found that 2 things work really well: Ultravate (Halobetosol Proprionate) and Triamcinolone. Ultravate is a high-powered corticosteroid and I only use it when things get really bad (it's hard on your system, increases blood sucrose, nasty stuff.) The Triamcinolone works in more sensitive areas, such as the face. Ask her dermatologist about these; they work like a charm and one application keeps the condition at bay for weeks.

If things get REALLY bad, Prednizone is an option, but boy does that stuff mess me up, so I avoid it like the plague.

I've been dealing with this on my elbows and ankles for years. It's not fun. Hard to convince people that it's not communicable and pretty embarrassing at times.

Good luck!
