Durango Rear end????
I need to pull the outboard bearing on the wifes 98 Durango rearend. How do I acomplish this? I have pulled the full floating like the big trucks, but never a 1/2 ton and need to know if I need any special tools.
Can I just pull the clip on the axle and jerk it out? What am I gonna need to get out the axle bearing
Thanks
Chris

Pick up a Haynes or Chilton for a schematic and directions to be sure, but if the design is the same as GM, you have to pull the lock pin and guide pin from the carrier. Then push in each axle side to clear the c-clip and lift it out or it may just drop out. Pull the axle shafts. Use a slide hammer style puller to get the bearings out. Watch how deep they are before moveing them. Use a rubber hammer and a matching size socket or a piece of wood to install the new bearings(press fit obviously, and don't forget to pack with grease.) Press in the seals. Clean off the axle shafts where the old seals stopped with emery paper and be careful not to hurt the new seals when you slide them in. Make sure the lock pin and guide pin aren't wore before you re-use them.

I had totally forgotten I had a haynes for this truck!!! I got it out and it lays it all out except the bearing removal. Looks like I have a weekend project now. Too bad it is a balmy 12 deg. outside here in Reno!!
