Afternoon all,
Cleanin house, don't want my beautiful bride to come home to a mess. Gotta get on a plane in the AM.
Hopin to catch (and laugh at) the broncos. Generators set up, dished put away, laundry folded, vacuumed... Help a guy out, what did I forget??? (bathrooms are already clean).
Thanks for the history Scott!
Glad to hear you had a GREAT time Shorts!!

Afternoon all. It is really hard to get motivated today. It is -20C / -4F here today. It was my wife's birthday Friday and we had a party here at the house Friday night and then went into the city for a party with her family yesterday. We stopped at the sausage supply store when in the city. Next weekend will be another weekend of sausage making - such a tasty hobby. We have definitely had some controversy in the 'other' section over the last few days. As long as we all still remember to respect everyone at the end of it, then we are just like every other family in the world.
Scotty - if you happen to be on the board today, go find your warm mittens and toque. We usually send our nasty weather east to you when we have had enough of it.
Have a nice day everyone, it is Sunday after all and it is American Thanksgiving in a few short days. Mmmmmmm - turkey.

From early this morning...I posted this for you folks but did it just before the other break room got closed down...I am posting it again in case someone actually wanted to read about my stupidity
OK...one LAST story about my buddy Jack and then I am going to let go of it .......
Jack and I spent a week on Santee Cooper lake about 10 years ago fishing the big blue cats in late March. That can be a great time of year to catch BIG fish but it can also be a time of nasty weather. For 3 days we had been kept off the lake because the wind was blowing heavy and the lake looked like an angry ocean, my 28ft deck boat just wasn't a match for that stuff at all.
On the 4th day the wind subsided a bit and we decided to make a dash for it, I cranked her up and we bounced from wave top to wave top to try and get a little fishing in. I was watching the depth finders closely and knowing a bit of the feeding habits of these big catfish I found a steep shelf where these big cats will come out of the depths to feed on.
I have electric anchors front and rear which make for a nice stable platform for fishing but can be dangerous in high current or wind conditions. It was relatively calm, waves about 2 ft (I say calm because they had been well over 6 ft all week) and I decided to only use the front just in case. A boat can capsize fairly easy when both ends are anchored if you are not careful.
We fished for about 45 mins on that drop off and brought in 7 fish the smallest was 3 lbs the largest about 6 and I felt the boat drag a couple times then become taught on the anchor line. I tried to raise the front anchor and at that moment the gear box decided to shear a gear off the cog and now I have no power anchor. Being prepared I keep an extra motor and gear box assembly aboard so I go out on the bow and kneel down to fix this thing and retrieve the anchor. Jack moves back to the helm to operate the controls to give me slack when I need it.
As I am working of course the weather changes from bad to down right nasty and the waves are beating us pretty good but we are stuck with this anchor that is now firmly stuck in a tree or rock about 40 ft down. The waves are tossing me about and as I look back at Jack I notice behind him that I see nothing but sky and then nothing but water......that boat is pitching pretty good and I have a razor sharp knife on my hip ready to cut that 1200 lb line if I have to.
I am fighting to hold everything together with hundreds of pounds of pressure now pulling on the rope, motor and gear box as I am attempting to put a bolt in place without losing my fingers. All of a sudden I hear a noise from Jack that sounds ominously like a "Ut Ohhh" and I look back to see his eyes widen.
I am facing the left side of the boat with my right shoulder to the bow and the oncoming wind and waves. I turn my head to the right and see this wave that has to be every bit of 2 ft above my head just about a half second before it crashes over me.
I hold on to everything, tools parts... my wits and realize I am still in one piece and have managed to somehow keep everything together. I shake my head tying to clear the water out of my ears and look back at Jack and in a VERY serious tone (and the same look on his face as that photo) I hear him say............................................
Would it be OK if I just Snickered a little bit?
I got the bolts back in, powered the boat forward to pull the anchor loose and retrieve it and we headed back to the Motel room to a warm room and a bottle of Crown Royal...leaving the rest of our fishing trip to the relative safety of the canal between the two lakes the rest of that week.
I will add rather crudely, although it fit the Sgt Majors personality one last tidbit.....
As we cooked dinner on a small grill outside the motel room door that evening, there was a Black Lab hanging around trying to mooch a few morsels off us. We obligingly gave him his fill as we drank a few toasts to old friends long lost in multiple Foreign conflicts over the years before hitting the sack ready for another day of fishing.
About 5 am I heard the Sgt Major stir from his bed and he said to me......."Hey son......let that dog in here so I can lick his butt and get this awful taste out of my mouth" I almost died laughing because I had a mouth full of cotton as well, as we put a much larger dent in that half gallon of Crown that he had given me for my Birthday, than we had ever intended. What with the bad weather and the beloved friends we were honoring that night, a few easily crept into a few too many and I was sure feeling it the next day.
My apologies Ladies for the crude joke, but you just kinda had to be there to truly appreciate the quality of such great humor from a Military mind.

nope, nothing crude there. having working dogs for 27 years and getting off the school bus to work in my parent's bar showed me an understanding of his comment. and a drink to wash it down.
again, hunter hubby out in woods- three deer in yard at home. I just go out and talk to them.
second hunter home, good family guy. was checking his son's 12 ga magnum for new scope trouble (made in china). yup, he under estimated that 12 ga. and got bit. right eye damage and deep cut on forehead. appearantly he did not have a secure grip at fore stock. scope was removed, kept firing way right despite adjustments, per hubby who got only a lil bit.
Polar, everyone has an image in mind when making a comment. so hard to transfer the true intent over this social medium now....no worries, done and apologised fellas. my opinion is that there is no clear 'bar' of standard behavior in guys in this decade- good, kinda good, good sometimes, good once, might be good, good when pushed, good in limelight, good only to friends ect....it's society (shoulder shrug, no worries icon)
Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to beaver, Dr Kildere, Emergency, tv shows come to mind here is some ice cream for you- if you have to eat your words, may they be sweet.
and there's DTR guys!

PurpleZR2 - if you want to know what a toque is, Google 'Bob and Doug McKenzie'. The woolen hats they a wearing are toques.
Just got off the phone with my baby sister. She is fighting with my middle sister. I want to go over to the cemetery and yell 'Mom, Erin and Tara are fighting again!'. Hey wait, it is kinda like this place sometimes. Heidi - if you are the DTR Mom, make everyone play nice...

I have also seen bent shotgun barrels from riding behind pickup truck seats and other damage. I had a guy bring in a Remington to me one time and he said the dang thing was shooting around corners. Before he got close to me I could already see that the barrel was bent sometimes I will stand a long gun in a rack and step back 10 ft or so to look at it. Up close it is often not as obvious just how bent a barrel may actually be.
