Morning campers.

Rainin' here this morning.
'Sposed to head to Dale City for a shed-building & cookout.

Looks like the shed might have to wait.
The sounds of hammers will most likely be replaced by Corona bottle caps poping off, and Anticuchos on the grill ........ well to tell the truth, it would probably have been the same if the sun was shining.

Have a great and safe day.

I dunno if you noticed this or not, but scrap yards have died out. A couple years back when steel scrap went thru the roof, EVERY yard around cleaned out. When I bought my Frontier, I looked at a hard body with 74,000 on the clock, when I come back from my test drive, I told the salesman that I didn't really want something that had more miles than my trade in. He said, they must have goofed, their policy was used can have no more than 20K or it goes to a secondary lot and most secondary lots wont take anything over 50K. Over 50K goes to auction, salvage, or crusher depending on who is paying more. 50K miles isn't many miles these days. The only vehicles that you are gonna find in the next 10 years are new or private sale vehicles. the classic car industry is dying in a hurry. Cash for clunkers program is just making everyone pay to kill it.
The ones this really hurts is the secondary car lots since they are loosing their base of vehicles.

I CAN SEE THAT OUR GOVERNMENT HAS LEARNED A LOT FROM CAR COMPANY'S

EXAMPLE> GM-PARTS WARHORSE IN SWARTZ CREEK MI.
I HAVE SEEN EMPLOYEES PAYED TO LAY OUT BODY PANELS ,HOODS & FENDERS IN A PARKING LOT AND THEN THEY WOULD PAY SOME ONE TO RUN OVER THE PARTS WITH A BULLDOZER THEN LOAD THEM UP TO BE SOLD FOR SCRAP

OF CORSE WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO GM .THE GOVERMENT BAILLED THEM OUT

Morning Everyone. Nice outside today, gonna wash the truck and then cook some steak on the grill later for the GF and I.

Claude, you are right. That program does prove we are a throw away society. One thing mom brought up to me about that program is work cars. We have a big industry on the lake...the steel mills. Alot of the workers there own a clunker or work car to drive to there everyday and then they own their nice car for driving elsewhere. It's not a place you wanna drive a nice new car into, so most guys have their little work car or truck. I know I wouldn't wanna trade a clunker in for a new car just to tear up by going to work, it would be a waste to me.

matt> what about all the people that just are making ends meet & can`t aford a new car? what are they supose to do ? walk take public transportation >that may be fine in other countrys but our country is so vast and we arn`t set up for that !
what would they have them do walk?
they are ruining good safe cars and some people are driving unsafe cars around because of finances
its leaveing the real & unsafe clunkers on the road

if they really wanted to do something they would have left a provision in there for the unsafe cars on the road could have been swaped out for the safe ones they are wrecking> could have had a program of application where people could apply to swap their real clunker for something better!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad I am not the only one who is outragged by this whole BS program. I saw on the national news just the other night they were talking about the program and showed what looked like a late 90's early 2000's Explorer the mech was putting the engine exploder crap in. In the mean time my GF is driving around a '00 contour with 150K miles and cant afford a 4x4, and NEEDS one.
And my thoughts the same, why are we destroying potentially very safe reliable vehicles that could be used to sell to less fortunate people that cant afford a new car even if their 200 dollar POS will give them an extra 4500 bucks??? REALLY!?

OHOH, what about my uncles '04 GMC, he trades it in, his new cummisn gets better mileage, are they going to destroy a mint condition '04 GMC with 45K miles???

Claude if it came to the point to it's either a new car and payment or feed the family. I'd feed the family, the car can wait. You're right, most of this country is too wide spread to walk or take other means of transportation.

What got me was, how is that $4500 gonna help? A person that can't afford the cheapest new car still won't be able to. Unless they start making a $4500 car. Now who knows where this will go from here. This Cash for Clunkers might just be the start of it all. They could start denying renewal of vehicle registrations if the vehicle is over so many yrs old. Now that wouldn't be good, it would force alot of us to buy what the gov't wants us to drive then.

no one is making people trade in.
Yes, this is a short sighted incentive to get people to trade in their old for new. but those are people that are already looking at it. yes, its going to get alot of the good hobby 4x4s off the road. The only thing I really see this as doing is spending my money and putting the cost of a used 4x4 SUV thru the freaking ceiling.

Howdy, gang. Sounds like Old Claude is warmed up and running well today. Hey partner, I'm with you on this one. Bama Baby takes my tax money and gives it to the car companies. Then, he takes my money and gives it to people to go buy cars from these companies - - and why - - to make sure the unions are well taken care of - - all on our money. Now people that can't afford the car payments in the first place got a great deal on nicer car than I drive and I paid for it. Hmmmm????? There sure is something wrong here and YEH, I'M MAD TOO. But I better shut up - - I am in the wrong place to rant about it.

OK, on to more pleasant things. Gorgeous day here, warm but nice - - great sleep nap on the lounge in the lanai then dip in pool to cool off. Good church service, great SS class except for that big long drink of water teacher. Wonderful dinner with a beautiful blonde - - nice day. Grabbing a cup of ph00 and go have some ice cream. See ya,

Stay cool, Claude - - just remember what to do when the voting booths open up again.

Bob

Count yourself as lucky; in Mass every time the power goes out we get calls asking if we know the power is out and when will it be back on? Last time there were over 600 calls in a 3 hour time frame. Then there are the idiots, um, I mean CITIZENS that call during/after a snowstorm to see if there's any school. Those usually amount to 4 - 500 calls per snow event. Let's see, what else... oh yeah; "What are the hours for the pizza shop?" That's good for at least 8 or 10 calls per week. If you tell people these questions aren't proper use of the 911 system, they're quick to inform you in no uncertain terms that they pay 10 grand a year in taxes for their house and 1/4 acre lot and that those taxes pay your salary, so they're entitled to call 911 for whatever reason they darn well want to! But the GOOD news is that we can be just as rude back to them as they are to us. Or at least I can. (I made up that rule!)
Scott, we get all those too, it's just assumed that all dispatches share them. Usually they call on valid phones though, and when they become a big problem we go sieze the phone or worse. What you need to do for the ones reminding you of the salary they pay is explain that the judge also pays those taxes and may like to have a word with them if it keeps up, and oh by the way... when do I get my raise? Oh, and every intersection in the Grand Rapids Metro area needs to have a cop posted for traffic when the power is out, because somebody IS GONNA DIE out there.

Claude, another thing is, when they fry all these engines, they're probably making more pollution than the vehicle created in it's life. And don't forget the coolant all over the ground from the blown heads.

Night shift is in, coffee's on.
