dunno if you have considered it or not, but for long driveways here, alot of people use crusher dust. no larger than you are, concrete is stronger.
Asphalt can handle any load, just has to be thick enough.
If you asphalt, dont forget to seal it every few years.

On the other hand have you ever considered interlocking brick? There is a lot of driveways around here made with that. With a good base it will last much better than asphalt and if any oil gets on it they are easy to pull out and replace. I used to deliver building materials and one place had asphalt in front where we would pull in grossing 100k lbs [tractor trailer] and soon the asphalt broke up in the spring. They replaced it with interlocking brick and no more problems with shifting and breaking up.Not sure where you are or if anybody uses that system there but maybe something to look into....

Concrete. Especially if you are prone to leaking diesel fuel and dumping oil drain pans over. At least you havea chance to clean it up instead of figuring out how to fix the soft spot in the driveway.

Well if this was a poll, concrete would win by a mile. Thanks for the suggestions, I am leaning toward concrete sometime next year. Hopefully I can get gravel down in the next couple of weeks and make it through the sloppy winters here.

Well, you've seen a bunch of opinions. One thing I'll add, is if you go concrete, you mentioned rebar, wire mesh and fiber reinf concrete. You only need one of the 3 types of reinforcement for a residential driveway.
Fiber mesh in the concrete will be fine, especially if you have a good compacted subgrade.
