downloading music legally

I've had my palm T5 for a few months now and I love it. It's got an SD card slot so I'm wanting to get a 2GB card just for loading music onto so I can use it as my portable player since I always have it with me anyway. I'll be setting up my truck and home stereos also. The palm has RealPlayer on it, which I kinda like. There are other software programs available for the palm, i'm sure.

Looking around for places to download music legally a friend referred me to a site, BurnLounge; 99 cents/song or $9/album, they're .wma Windows Media so they're protected but you can burn and transfer to any portable device. pretty much every non-Mac portable player will play the .wma format, it's basically a secure .mp3.

you can sign up for free as a customer and as an option you can use their $30 Independant Content Editor(I.C.E.) software that's a really easy way to keep track of your music and account(when you purchase the software you're moved from 'customer' status to 'fan' status); or you can sign up, for a fee, as a retailer if you want to open an online store to sell the songs.

check it out here:

I use i-tunes. $.99/song, great selection, tells you which versions are explicit and which one's aren't. I'm very pleased. Fast and reliable downloads.

Sure nice to know who my friends are here

The courts here ruled that since we pay an extra tax on blank cd's , to help compensate the artists , then we can download and share as much as we please.

See, now that's an intelligent thing to do cause what's the difference of me burning the complete CD from somebody who bought the CD and me downloading it from the internet. It's the same thing.

We pay an extra tax on ALL recordable media. CD's, DVD's, Cassettes, whatever and have since the mid 1980's.

The recording artists made the point, at that time, quite correctly, that with all the recording of music, their revenue was decreasing. As such they wouldn't be able to make a living with their intellectual material. The Supreme Court agreed with them and the government gave us Canucks a shiney new tax.

Along came the 'net and the recording industry came back to the Supreme Court wanting file sharing made illegal. Court said,15 years ago you claimed that a tax on ALL recordable media was the answer to all your woes. Now you claim it's not good enough, but we disagree. So the status quo prevails for now.

BTW, we have just as many whiney artists here. But hey, we managed to send Celine Dion south!!!

I have an objection to ITUnes, it only works with IPods.

Isn't Jewel from Canada? She'd be another one. Better looking than Celine, too.

I use I-tunes as well.

It can be 'legal' here too if you use news groups and bit torrents
