Don't shoot me - nowhere to go!

I'm trying to help my nephew and am stuck-posted this at FTE and have recieved nothing. Didn't know where else to go. It's 1996 Ford Ranger

1996 4.0-Balancer Pully Stuck - HELP!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm (it's) stuck. Trying to get the balancer off to do a timing cover seal and it won't budge. Used an impact to remove the bolt and am using a MAC balancer puller but it won't come off. Many small block chevy's under my belt, but what am I missing here! Help.

I'm no expert but it doesn't look like your missing anything. Keep at it. It should work. http://stuffforyourranger.com/How_To...nderdrive.html

Did you get it yet?
Some of those trucks have a large washer under the balancer bolt that will be stuck in the end of the balancer. If you look at at, the dirt will make it look like its part of the balancer, but it needs to come off to get the balancer off. Good luck, I've seen a few ruined pullers in this situation.

Also, since you are changing the seal anyway, take a small flame (No not a lighter) and warm the pulley. Place tension on the pulley with the puller and then warm it. I have found that helps a great deal

AutoZone has some really kick-butt pullers in their loan-a-tool selection. You buy the tool, use it, then return it for a full refund.

Ask to look at #27019 and #27139. One of them ought to work.

A little heat always makes things go together better...

heat will always help! im not sure about the washer mydieselstinker mentioned but get a good sized puller and crank down on it and add some heat. my dad was also telling me you can leave the puller sit over night and put some penetrate spray on it. good luck!

The 4.0l need a long extention on the puller to hit the crank and force the pulley off. IIRC the nose of the forcing bolt had to go inside the pulley 3+ inches..... Should come right off with the right puller setup.
