This happened today about a mile from where my wife works.

All I can say is I hope the ole boy makes it. What this article doesn't say is that after being shot the man was hit over the head with a hammer and still had enough fight in him to return fire and protect his home and partner.

People looking to rob/assault/attack/harm another person assume the risk. People carry these days. The legal consequences might not scare them, but the should at least consider the immediate repercussions of their decision.
Bring force and you might get met with equal or greater force.

I remember dad use to have a gun rack on the back wall behind the seat of his Dakota. He kept a .22. Just normal, like the tools he kept in the toolbox and ammo in the glove box. Now a days everything is considered such a crime or thieves come in and go through the things you have.
I want to put in a gun rack on the truck, but it would be on the back wall IF there was room. But I'm primarily concerned with some low life getting in the truck. I have a feeling that eventually someone will try to break in it. I have had my other trucks at least attempted break-ins. Seems like only a matter of time. I'm the rack since I carry. The boomstick is in the truck if I am.

Comments from Concealed Carry Instructors.
1. Never let someone or something that threatens you get within arm’s length and never say, “I’ve got a gun”. If you feel you need to use deadly force, for heaven’s sake let the first sound they hear be the safety clicking off, or the cocking hammer. They shouldn't have time to hear anything after that if you are doing your job.'
2. The average response time of a 911 call is over 4 minutes, the response time of a 9mm/.357 or .44 magnum is 1400 feet per second.
3. Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not to protect you.
4. The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win - and cheat if necessary.
5. Make your attacker advances through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, because it's going to be empty.
6. If you end up in a gun fight, if you're not shooting, you should be loading. If you're not loading, you should be moving, if you're not moving, you’re dead.
7. In a life and death situation, do something. It may be wrong, but do something.
8. If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for?
9. You can say stop or alto or use any other word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language.
10. You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it.
11. You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

If anybody here is not a member of the NRA they should be.
Along with membership you get The American Rifleman magazine. It’s cheap.
It has great gun articles and usually has some additional real stories pertaining to real people defending themselves in their homes.
Your dues go to some great causes that benefit anybody who wants to be able to keep their firearms.
Nope, I am not a paid spokesman and they probably don’t know I exist but any organization that tries to protect my right to carry is a friend of mine.
