Dodge Increase Purchases From China

Just read that Dodge is going to increase the amount of parts they purchase from China from 100 million to 800 million. Not to knock the Chinese but these trucks are already low quality and poor reliability. Can't imagine how bad it's gonna get for 07 and 08. The Chinese factories have much lower quality control standards and use lower grade materials in their products as well as lax child labour laws which significantly reduce the cost to produce these parts.

Or maybe I'm just being bitter in light of my recent 5 week saga with my truck.

Not only that, but with increased production from china prices will go up on materials because we will be exporting more.

Only way to stop the import of junk from China is to stop buying it.

We should have thought of that 30yrs ago when they first started send us all their junk. Maybe we would still have some manufacturing jobs left in this country and less than a 62 billion dollar trade deficit with china alone. Just my .02 worth.

is it just me that thinks that China stuff isnt crap? Foreign cars outlast American hands down. They usually have less recalls.

The reason they get imported products from China is simply due to the fact they dont pay for benefits and it comes out cheaper to have them foreign made and import them.

The foreign cars that you are probably referring to - Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc. aren't from China. They're Japanese.

Wouldn't ya think that with all of those savings you're talkin about that we would see a reduction in the price we pay for one of these trucks. When ws the last time you saw that happen....jsut like forgs hair...never.

I say that we don't have to move to china for a lower standard of living.....just wait and it will be comming to America. We have to compete with foreign labor overseas and now we have to compete with foreign for jobs here in our country. Just doesn't make sense.

Do you mean that because of higher wages its OK to go off shore. If thats the case then maybe they should try to sell their products to the chinaman or who ever else they have build the products. Again by doing so they are lowering our standard of living. Almost without anyone, except the displaced workers knowing it. What a great deal that is.....for all those that outsource.

Actually they do sell them over there and build them there also. A professional level person I worked with and her husband bought a Jeep Cherokee (not the Grand Cherokee) and it cost them 4 years worth of their combined salary. Foriegn cars are considered "status" symbols.

you gotta look at it from the supply side of the market...its totally different.

Lets put it this way. My parents own a donut shop.

Ok... a glazed donut is $.50. Now they have $.25 in labor/materials. Now if they could make the same donut CHEAPER... say $.20... why wouldnt they. They are there for profit, not to employee American workers. If my parents had to offer benefits to their 1 worker, the bakery would be bankrupt due to high costs of medical insurance.

So, when DC ships off their stuff to China to build, its cheaper for the company because they dont have to pay insurance for the workers. I was having a discussion today with my girlfriend and a girl she works with. They work for Allstate insurance. Their personal medical insurance SUCKS. Her friend pays $240/month for her and her daughter to be covered. She says the employeer pays 75% of the insurance each month. Thats $750/ employee that they have to pay for. You can see that adds up REALLY fast. 1000 employees x $750 a month = $750,000 a MONTH. So, they ship the jobs off and save .75 MILLION a month and give the Chinese the jobs.

I dunno about quality, I have never had a complaint about Chinese products breaking on me. I dont buy products because they are American built or Chinese/japanese built. I buy them based on reputation and price. Have Patriotism (sp?) but until you see hard evidence of a loss in product quality...why bash it? Why bash a company for trying to save their butts in the financial world. Look at GM...they are paying employees to quit because they cant afford them. That 10million a year that they can save on benefits can keep the company a float.
