do you feel "less Manly" in a 4x2 than a 4x4?

you gotta admit, the stock 4x4 CTD's are very tall - they loom over everything in a parking lot. my favorite thing was to park my 4x4 CTD in front of Suburbans so folks could not find their SUV.

wife had nicknamed the 04 "The Bull" because it would SNORT if you worked the throttle right in a parking lot

(dig back a few pages)

anyways, got this 4x2, because i only used the 4x4 once in 2 years.

but, it just feels like driving a sissy truck,
the wife named this one "George"

EVERYTHING is taller than me now!
even the little Jap trucks with lifts where still shorter than the CTD

anyone else went from 4x4 CTD to 4x2?

Nope, the truck is just a tool to do a job - in our case, to pull a 5th wheel RV. A 2WD fits this purpose best for my application. The truck doesn't define my identity. It has nothing to do whatsoever with my manhood.

I havent, and I dont think I would, I like having the option of 4x4 and IMO its not a truck unless its 4x4, but thats just me...not to say there is anything wrong with a 4x2, I just wouldn't have one, unless it was a killer deal...and then I would resell it

I need the functionality. However, I feel that the 4x4's look more well proportioned with a larger tire.

I'm not in to the big wheels thing, but the 4x2's would look better as well with larger wheels and tires like 19.5's/22.5's.

I love the duallys with 19.5's in a 4x2. That is all pull, no bull.

I have a 4wd,but my Dad has a 2wd,I drive his frequently,and let me tell you,if I didnt need 4wd,I'd have a 2wd in a heartbeat,handling is so much better,steering is spot on,road feel,what a difference.My 4x4 feels numb to input while the 2wd feels like a corvette.Oh yeah,his 3.55 3500 quad cab 2wd gets 4-5 mpg better than my 4wd 2500 4.10 quad shortbed.

I also have a 2001 GMC 2500HD 4x4,it sits about as high as Dads 2wd 3500CTD,I have no problem with how driving any of them makes me feel.

04CTD,

I agree with you. The 4x4 just looks better and it sits taller than everything else in the parking lot. I love sitting at red lights, even behind other cars, and I can see everything in front of us by looking OVER the car in front of me.

Whatever the cost of a 4x4, you will get it back when you sell the truck. The truck is always worth that much more. They sell easier too. And, you get the added benefit of it looking better (imo) and the use of 4x4 when you need it.

I don't care for trucks all jacked up with fancy wheels and tires. But a 4x4 Dodge Cummins looks very proportional and sits up very nicely.

Yeah, why have a truck as big as ours with out 4wd? I understand if you don't need it, it's just something else to break.

You still have a nice truck

For that problem, I found a set of billet steel adjustable coil spring spacers for $159. I ordered them, and a set of 1" blocks for the rear. This will keep me from having problems when I have a trailer hooked up. The spacers are adjustable to just over 3" lift. I set mine up 2" with the jack, and I think it made a world of difference in appearance. I can't wait until I get them to see if it actually works.

I dunno, I have had one 2wd truck, and it just wasn't the same. I mean, I have a vehicle specifically for wheelin', but its a NICE thing to have when you need it in my CTD. I have used it multiple times. Plus they look a 1000 times better IMO.

I specificly ordered my truck in 2001/dec , in 2wd. though I have found a need for the low range ounce or twice, I am very happy with the 4X2. My son has a 99 3500 4X4, and has had lots of issues with track bar( death wobble) and ball joints. Most camp ground have wide level trails, and so 2wd work fine for me.

Got to have 4wd if your truck will ever roam from pavement or see snow. stuck my truck in my parents flat grassy yard. I have seen many a 2wd landscape truck back their trailers down a small incline in front of my parents house and then not be able to pull it out without spinning and sinking. Its worth every penny when 2wd leaves you stuck. Even with 4 wd your not totally safe either though. Been stuck with 4 wheels spinning too (stupid stock michelins) but that happens a lot less frequently. Whatever you drive though, tires can be all the diffrence. Oh and yeah i like the stance better too

Truck is a tool

many of u have already said it, and I agree, if the 4wd gets you out of one bind, it was well worth it, The extra low gearing for pulling and insane TQ in 4 low is also a hoot! I have a 4wd, do i need it? Not really, But my deer lease is sandy and i do occasionally go hunt when its muddy outside, or wet, dry sand is no fun, and wet sand is a highway, i love it, but the back of the lease is clay. Where the horses are kept its all clay as well when its wet, not much fun in a 2wd either, and i cannot disk the arena without 4wd either, I have it to get me out of trouble or get me thru hard spots, and for that I see it as well worth it, and as mentioned, the stance aint too bad either... Do i feel less manly without a 4wd? well, i do feel shorter, and i do feel inadequete or that something is missing driving a 2wd, so i guess yeah i do....

Each has their own purpose ... my old '70 Dodge D100 was only a 2 wheel drive but with those granny gears, there was never a place we couldn't get to (sure miss that old truck !!).

I enjoy my 4x4 and don't see myself in anything else due to the location of my farm and some of the tasks I will use it for. But no ... I wouldn't feel any less manly in a 2x4. I think they look goofy all jacked up with big ol' mudders all the way around like a 4x4 ... but that is just my .02 .

To each their own.
