I look at completed listings for vans, RVs, trucks, you name it and maybe 1 in 10 vehicles actually meets reserve. I know some vehicles are overpriced, but even decently priced stuff doesn't seem to sell. Even wierder is that there might be two almost identical trucks and one gets a ton of bids and sells for a decent price (decent price for seller) and the other doesn't sell.
I tried to sell a truck once on Ebay, and I set the reserve at more than dealer trade value to account for sales tax. The final bid was about $2,000 less than the trade in value the dealer offered, so I traded it in. (I was actually suprised trade-in was so high.)

I bought my truck on eBay from a dealer in Livingston, TX. It had a lot of minor problems and a couple of major ones so I think I paid a bit to much. However, I wanted a CTD and I had the cash and so there I was. I bought it. I've spent a few hundred dollars on it so far and now it's in good enough mechanical shape I'm not afraid to pull my trailer cross country.
I think eBay is a good way for dealers to sell vehicles but private parties are behind the 8-ball because they have to have more than the dealers can get vehicles for at auction.

Saw a mid '60's Vette on there and after the bidding ended, my buddy emailed him to see find out the least he would let it go for, then drove over (neighboring state) to take a looksee...
Two weeks later the fellow decided he would take less and sold it to him outside of ebay, if that counts.

I sold my PSD Excursion on E-bay as well as my 99 f -250 super duty (V-10)Both met the reserve and sold. I found that if you put a reserve on it and start at $100.00 you will get more than if you start a $22000.00 truck at $15000.00 to open. The auction world is impossible to figure out. I've been to auto auctions for years and no 2 weeks are ever the same, go figure!!

I sold my '71 Ranchero on eBay and got about what I wanted for it. The buyer seemed pretty happy with it - I listed of all the flaws so he knew what he was getting. It's a good service, especially for vehicles that aren't very common.
