Diggin dogs

Need some help. I've got 2 Mastiffs that have gotten in the habit of digging up the flower beds (if I were a dog I would have picked the same spot). Anyway, I've tried the shock collar, chicken wire, pepper, you name it and while it might work for a day or 2, these are the most stubborn dogs I've ever seen. Anyway, I had a brain storm last night and thought about a motion activated sprinkler. I did a quick google search this morning for an electric water timer but could only find a battery operated one. Anybody got any ideas how to wire this up to a motion sensor?

Forget that. Go to a farm supply and get what called cattle panel. Cut it to fit the flower bed and bury it a couple of inched deep. They will not be able to dig through the squares, yet the plants will still grow through it just fine. I place a peice by every gate I install, and where every I install a bed or plant something.

Here is an example. It's just really heave fence panels.

I was considering that but was looking for a cheaper/easier option. My wife had the beds done yesterday and it sure would be a shame to have to re-do everything just to lay the panels. I was planning on doing something before the landscaper came but we've been on his list for some time and it snuck up on me. Any other ideas?

My lab started digging as a puppy and I was able to completely stop him.
Everytime he would dig a hole in the yard, I would poop scoop some of his poop in the hole. After a couple of days I would then fill the hole back in, leaving the poop buried. It sounds weird but it works like a charm. He has not dug a hole in the yard in years.

I've heard about the poop thing and mentioned it to my wife but she vetoed it. She reminded me that these were Mastiffs and unfortunately they don't make a small pile of poop.

Might try Liquid Fence, it sure works on keeping deer from eating my wifes plants. It stinks to high heaven when you first apply it, don't know if it would work for dogs or not.

Good luck.

I found the motion activated water thing at Ace Hardware for $61 and plan on going that route. Hopefully a few squirts in the face and they'll get out of the flower beds for good. We'll see.

I bought it at my local feed and hardware store. You just spray the plants and small area around the plants, lasts for several weeks, unless of course you get a big rain. Respray every month or so (if I remember the directions correctly). I bought the concentrate and mix with water in a sprayer.

Here's a link to their website.

and low and behold, they make a dog and cat repellant as well.

Update

If anyone has any doubts about the sprinker, don't worry. It has worked perfect and the dogs won't go anywhere near the beds now. What's funny is when company comes over and I forget to turn it off...he he.

I had the same problem and finally tried this also. It worked like a charm. My dogs absolutely hate this thing. After a few days I can remove it and they think it is still there and won't go anywhere near it... i tried everything you did. pepper. shock collars the whole deal. But, this thing worked.. It was the cheapest at Amazon.com

I also used it to keep my dogs away from the chicken coop. it is also pretty fun to nail your friends with...

Now that is funny. But she could just use a coal shovel instead of the pooper scooper !!!!
