Re:diesel costs

Paid $1.59/gal last night halfway between DC and Baltimore - same $$ as midgrade gas. Most dsl fuel prices around here are almost dime higher.

Commatoze: I didn't know that the fuel prices were that sensible on your side. At least over here the experts say that if the fuel prices go up a little more we are heading for recession. ( at least some of the experts)<br><br>Funny thing though- biodiesel is exactly the same price as dino juice... all the time..... there must be a cartel of BIO-SHEIKS somewhere ;D <br><br>AlpineRAM<br><br><br>

Re:diesel costs

The thing you find here Alpine is that diesel will fall in price once the heating season is over. Then gasoline prices which were stable to declining over the winter spike up due to summer vacationers.

I guess we can expect them to go up, with all Bush said during his speech Tuesday. :'(<br><br>1.48 and 1.54 the two stations I frequent.<br><br>I think the Flying Hook has it for 1.43 or thereabouts.<br><br>Found out that Utah uses only domestic crude, therefore doesn't get anything from Middle East. ;D<br><br>phox

Re:diesel costs

Over here we do have a slight rise during winter. The price without taxes is about the same over here as in the US. <br>But since we've got more than 50% of the new car sales with diesel the demand for diesel is quite high. Lots of people use wood chips or pellets for heating because it's cheaper. ( Would like to drive my cummins on wood ;D ) <br><br>AlpineRAM

The new furnace in my cabin is propane, have an antique 4 legged cylinder wood stove(I love this thing) in the living room to supplement. In the future I would like to add an external wood burning furnace. A guy I work with has one and it's awesome. He has it built into the side of his polebarn, and can store the wood inside. Stokes about every 3 days. Heats a water line fed to the plenum of his furnace which then blows the heat through the house. He is working on modifying to heat the water supply as well. The key is an internal fan that blows the fire, operated by a thermostat. This fan uses under 40w. I would loike to get one of these and get a solar panel to run the electrical in both furnaces.

Re:diesel costs

I found this contraption at gas-turbine(s) .com. It's a turbo powered wood burner, neat idea...

Re:diesel costs

Over here wood chip furnaces are the &quot; dernier cri&quot;. You have got a tank or bunker and the furnace feeds itself just like if you used oil. You can either have your own chipper or buy the woodchips. If you have good quality wood the only thing you need to do in addition to what has to be done with an oil furnace is to empty the ash bin about all 3 months. <br>I could try to get you some materials on these furnaces if interested. <br>If I had some good space for solar collectors I'd maybe look into combining solarthermo and wood heating. With the ones we use over here the fans need a little more than 40W. You will need to get quitesome panel and some buffer batteries to keep up with that demand. ( Cold night, snow on the panel and you are not at home)<br><br>AlpineRAM

Re:diesel costs

Fuel and gas just went up big time here. The cheap truck stop is 149.9 and supposed to go up fast. Gas went up over 10 cents today at several stations. IF the rises that they say are coming, the truckers will shut the country down. A little more rise and I am in trouble here.

Re:diesel costs

I know what you are saying HID. I priced a job hauling some horses from a regular customer to a show in Orlando a month ago. I sure wish I would have been higher - the way prices have risen. <br><br>I bid on alot of horse transports on the web. I always get replies like, your to high, I found someone to do it for this much can you beat it. <br><br>Those cutthroat SOB's are hurting themselves and everyone else. <br>Good thing I have regular customers to rely on.

Re:diesel costs

Holy rip the cash out of my account Batman, buck fifty three nine. Took me $47.50 to fill up with almost a quarter of a tank already in there. That's disgusting.
