Diagnostic software

Anyone know where i can purchase software/cables for reading DTC's etc , on OTR trucks? I want something just like what OTC , SNAP ON , etc use on their scopes , but I want software i can load on a laptop.

Cost is not an issue , as long as it is reasonable.

So , who makes the product i am looking for?

When you find out, let me know. Last time we had a truck at work in for diagnosis it cost $120 just for the shop to hook up their scanner. There's gotta be a software package and a USB adapter out there...

Check out ebay, there's lots of software out there with usb and bluetooth adapters. Most of it allows you to do everything but flash the pcm. Check/clear codes, view data, and some of it even allows you to do functional checks on pcm/bcm outputs. And most are under $200 shipped.

I want something that is effectively going to operate just like the modis from snap on:

Except I want to use my laptop , instead of their scope, to run the software.

I know i can buy the software for a cummins , from cummins , that will work on my laptop, but we have two cummins powered trucks, a few with cats, a volvo , and a renault , so buying 4 software packages would get somewhat pricey.

Try http://www.autoenginuity.com/. It supports Cummins as well.

This will read only,

Insight is the most common heavy duty laptop (pc) based diagnostic software out there, I tried to google it for you without success. I do know that it is expensive.

Does insight work on more than one engine MFG though?

Yes it does, however I don't know if you can get a bundle package.

I'll do some digging at the shop tomorrow and get back to you.

I know autoenginuity does. I have been using the base version program for a while. Never quite gotten around to upgrading since I work in dealerships and have the shops diagnostic software.

I looked at autoenginuity , but i don't see where it does Heavy duty/OTR trucks?

I have an OBD II scanner ( very basic one , enough to clear codes)

Let me know what you find hvytrkmech.

Ok, Insight is Cummins specific only, OTC has a read only called prolink, I believe I linked that to you already. If you want to spend about 3k then OTC has a system called Genesis, it will scan domestic cars and trucks AND read only (generic only, no troubleshooter), class 6-8 manufacturers. To get anything that is by-directional, or more specific than read only, you will need to go to each engine manufacturer specifically, good luck doing that.

Autoenginuity will only read Cummins, powerstroke, and d-max, (one ton or less), (generic, no trouble shooter), it will not read class 6-8 engines.

Good luck,

Tim

Ok, sorry i didn't read OP right, the one's on ebay are for OBD2 stuff, i don't know of anyone that has an all in one OTR package. Probably pretty difficult to come up with due to lack of a standard system like obd2 for passenger vehicles. Good luck with your search though.

I have had my eye on the heavy truck version of the genesis from OTC.

The local OTC rep is in the same jeep club as me , so i sent him an e-mail last night, it's looking like that may end up being my answer.

Thanks!
