Dead Xbox 360 - 3 Red Ring Light Club

I guess I get to join the Xbox 360 3 red ring of death club. ugh.... glad they extended there warranty to 3 yrs.

At least the girl on the phone was nice to talk to, she was from Texas good ole Texans! I could talk to her everyday

There must be 1 million dead boxes out there according to one site i found.

Overall looks to be a overheating issue on the two chips?

I had mine in an open space, off the ground, horizontal, with the 'intercooler' fan too, didn't seem to help any.

So much for playing the new Call of Duty4.

If you had problems also, post it here, I'd like to hear everyones issues.

Have you thought about an hx35 to cool it down?

Mine just gave me the ring of death a few days ago. Have you heard about the towel fix? Read it on the internet when I was looking for a root cause to the dang thing, and it actually works-wrapped my 360 up in 2 large bath towels, let it run for 20 minutes, unwrapped it, let it cool for another 20 minutes, turned it back on, and the red ring of death is gone-I was kind of skeptical that it would work, but figured I would try it since it now has a 3 year warranty anyways.

I'm on my third box. The first two I had in a huge open entertainment center... plenty of ventilation.

This third one is stuck inside a little wooden corner stand with zero ventilation and it's still going strong.

It's not a matter of "IF" its going to fail, it's "WHEN." I got my third one around Easter of this year so long before the supposed fixes came into play.

You need to keep an eye on the LP pressure to make sure the fan gets proper pressure.

And how many O.G Nintendos are out there still kicking? You remember taking out the cartridge, blowing on it and slamming it back it? A buddy of mine use to use Q-tips and rubbing alcohol to clean his.
Ah, the good old days.

Here it is for you young lads: http://cgi.ebay.com/NINTENDO-ENTERTA...QQcmdZViewItem

If you were old enough, in around 1982 Colecovision was pretty popular too.

Man, we sure came a long way.....

My bother just got the Halo 3 Edition 360, with an intercooler, He is considering getting a small AC unit to blow on it, or put it inside a mini fridge. I guess they get so hot the solder melts on the boards inside. Thats where the towel idea came from, trying to remelt the connections together again, I geuss? I have a few friends that are on their 6th and 9th boxes, say they won't trade for anything.

As for old systems that never quit, My Atari is still running strong CHOPPER COMMAND!!! PIT FALL!!! ASTEROIDS!!! and many more

I've got a working original Nintendo yet. Sure, you get a blank blue screen sometimes, but nothing a little manual labor couldn't take care of! You can't kill that thing!

On another note, I also have a working Atari 2600. Even more durable than the Nintendo! Holding on to that one in hopes some day I can make some money on it!

They don't make 'em like they used to!

I just bought xbox 360 elite, but did a LOT of research before i bought it. It works great so far ( about 1 month ). My friend has xbox 360 elite that has failed 4 times now. He's on his fifth one. It did the same thing his other ones did, so instead of sending it back we fixed it for good. We cracked open the case and found the real problem. We took off the heat sinks and discovered that the thermal grease was competely dried out and had lots of bubbles in it. This is very bad as it does not conduct heat well at all. We cleaned the top of the chips, and the bottom of the heatsinks and put arctic silver brand thermal grease on it and put it all back together and it solved the problem. ( the arctic silver is available at most computer stores.) Its been going now for 3 months. Before it would overheat after 20 minutes of play. Hasnt even flinched once since we did this. I think the problem with these things could be related to crappy thermal grease and lousy application of it. So if yours overheats and ur sick of sending it back all the time this might be the fix! Although it voids the warranty, if it works its worth it.

I miss my dads old Atari 2600. My one neighbor used to have an old nintendo, another one had a Sega Genesis, we had a super nintendo, and later a sony playstation. Ah, the good ol' days. Back when I bugged my parents for a sony playstation for christmas, mom got me an Atari Jaguar (got the playstation the following year)....anyone remember those things? I don't think they were to popular. I even got the cd attachment for it
