Cramped spaces
I have noticed a few things since buying a 3/4 ton, quad cab, LWB last fall.............(CTD of course)
1. Parking spots got a lot smaller.....
2. The drive through at Mc D's feels like a "sqeeze".... >
3. Turning into tight driveways requires 2 lanes............
And since lifting the truck and putting bigger wheels and tires........
4. At stop lights, the backs of peoples heads in front, down below are totally illuminated....(sorry!)
5. Those "overhead clearance" markers at the paking garage smack the windshield dead-on......
6. If wondering "is that someone down there" when changing lanes, it usually is...........

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:Cramped spaces
Mine is not a LWB but in my area I still have problems occasionally when driving downtown. My biggest worry is the sidewalls of the tires. I frequently drive with the RH tires scrubbing the curb while the LH side of the vehicle is about two inches away from the parked cars. Then there is the small matter of turning into a sidestreet with cars parked right up to the street on both streets. The yellow lines around the corners mean nothing here. Once in a while I even have to make a three point turn to turn on to the side street. Interesting with traffic on my bumper. Small cars that cannot be seen when so close. That is one reason I installed the untrasonic backup device. Use it every single day and am thankful to have it.

I drive in downtown DC.
With "Training Wheels" and a QC long bed, I have had to "Steer with the throttle" on several occasions.
It's also good for urging that pesky jaywalking pedestrian to get the lead out.

Re:Cramped spaces
When pulling into a parking spot, creep forward till you can no longer see the trunk, rear window, and half the roof of the car in front of you.
This will leave you 2 feet of clearance from your bumper to theirs, plenty of space to walk through.
Tires will be straddling the yellow lines on both sides.
If backing into same spot, creep backwards till the car behind you totally disappears behind your tailgate.
This will leave just enough room to lower the tailgate without hitting said car.
(would be 2-3 inches above the hood anyway)
Plan on getting the "number one" sign at stoplights at night.
You tend to illuminate the entire interior of cars in front of you, them hitting the dim lever on the rearview mirror accomplishes nothing.
Only owners of trucks lifted 4 inches or more will understand. ;D

Re:Cramped spaces
Phox, that sorta works if the car behind you is a full size car. But what if it is small Ricer or a motorcycle? Or the old style Beetle? By the time they disappeared from view I think I would have about a 10 foot space between us. That is why I decided to install the ultrasonic backup device. Almost need one on the front for some of the smaller vehicles around here.

I lived in Key West once. I had trailering mirrors on my truck that kept getting knocked off. I drive a dually now, andit gets used like a delivery truck (8hrs a day in the seat) in town everyday.

Re:Cramped spaces
Add to the list a few more features:
- Large space surrounds lifted 3500 4x4 CTD where ever I go.
- Space expands in ratio to amount of black smoke from tailpipe and roar from engine & turbo.
- Other vehicles do courtesy stops on narrow streets.
- Never have to use horn. Gunning the engine will do it.
- No one uses horn on me. Ever.
- Small children laugh & clap when truck goes by. Dogs hide. State troopers look puzzled.

Best comment I got from a young child was "Look Daddy, a Monster Truck" ;D
Have got puzzled looks from State Troopers as well, expected to see flashing lights in the rear view, but they must have just been looks of admiration.

No. Never ever used them. I can see the curb in my mirrors.
