coyote callers and coyote hunting
what do yall use for coyote callers? yall got any tips for coyote hunting? heres what weve done in the past and last night, it works OK for us. Keep in mind this was a game management deer, Last night a doe was shot we cut the back straps off of it and we took the meat we wanted. We took the deer down to a stock tank and left it by the brush line where critters frequent, hogs, coyotoes, varments etc etc etc. We parked on the other side of the tank up on the highside of the bank so we could have a good view of the carcas. What we did was used an ordinary caller, layed belly down, guns ready, and we had a spotlight w/ a red lense to look for eyes in the mesquite we took 3 coyotes w/in about 2 hrs. I Know theres more out there to take, anyone got suggestions?

What type of gun are you using. Here in Tennessee it is illegal to spot light to kill them, but it goes on. Don't really see why TWRA won't allow it, they are such a pest and do lot of harm. I have a Winchester 220 Swift for this type of hunting.

I looked at an Accuracy International gun chambered in 338 Lapua, but ended up building a Rem 700 in 300WM.
My Coyote gun is just a little Savage 93 in .17HMR, does the job out to 200-250 yards if the wind is calm.

You shoot a .338 Lapua mag for Coyote? What kind of rifle? Got any pics? No offense but thats an awful waste for something that size. Considering its about $5 a round, I'll stick with the $.20 I pend on HMR Ammo.

yea i use a 338 and its a AI rifle i like to stay sharp on my distant shooting since im not in iraq i dont get the chance to shoot long range at targets. and in Utah where i do my hunting i usually do canyon shooting at them around 800-1000 yards. The army has a low budget for us snipers because of the cost of rounds so we do our own thing, my boy is using a barrett 50 yea over kill for both of us but our job is long range shooting and sitting on a range shooting paper is not the same as a moving target

Yeah I'm with you ^, we don't wait for em here, we send out a search party (few guys, few gals, few guns, few beers) We've been known to be a little sneaky (that and coyotes are dumb) and pick em off quick.
Its the hogs we get serious with, they are overrunning the land here, rootin up our fields and scarin the deer off. The hogs we put some skills to, traps, calls, scents, corn, and voila! You have target practice.
