It's Microsoft's new spyware blaster, probably. If the banners are popping up in the lower right hand corner, that's probably it. There should be a red bull's eye down there...you can change settings, turn it off, etc.

If it's the banner at the top that drops down from the address bar, that is the pop up blocker in service pack 2 in Windows XP. Same thing, if you go do Tools then pop up blocker you can change the settings/turn it off.

wait a couple more days .... feb 8th they are releasing about 9 more updates, at least one they considder "critical" so have fun letting Billy boy make ya sweat while it does its thing. as long as the fixes are free I guess we shouldn't complain.............

as far as the banner it doesn't have a box to click saying do not show me this message again? if not try the control panel and click the icon for the Firewall and see what options it gives you.

Just click tools on your browser and select pop-up blocker on the menu, then click turn off pop-up blocker.

Or you can doge the popups by switching from the much targeted msie to a good browser, like Mozilla Firefox browser, a free download that you cna install in a few minutes, it even lets you bring over your favorites list from msie.... I have had it several weeks now and I can not recall a single popup coming through. there are also some great guides out there for letting you tweak the setings depending on your connection typ to get better performance results. many guides on how to do them google is your friend!

If you right click on the banner itself you will get the option to turn it off.

Just installed SP2 last night and that was one of the first things I had to figure out. So far everything works fine, which is what I was worried about and why I held off updating for so long. And my network seems to connect a lot faster now, too.

its not a popup blocker. the banner drops from under the address bar and drops down everytime i visit a site. in the bar it says"to help protect your security, internet explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer". if i right click on it it gives me the option of allow blocked content or whats the risk. it doesn't have don't show this message again or turn it off. i do have microsoft pop up blocker turned off

Ok that sounds like your security settings blocking active x which is a good thing.

Ah I know what you are talking about now... I just had it happen when I went to check my Yahoo email.

I just allowed it to display the blocked content. I'm not sure if its a completely new thing for SP2 or if its just displaying information about something it has always done and just never told me about.
