Did you set up the TCP/IP settings for obtaining an IP address?

Network cable could also be bad, swap it with another.
Make sure the Ip address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers are set correctly, or are being obtained correctly from the router if it is DHCP.

got 2 NIC cards if you need one, but they are $5 on ebay,, prolly get one for same local computer store.

See, this is where I start to think I need to get someone to look at this thing.


I just don't get why it would have went from properly functioning to NOT just like that.

PJ If you click on the properties, then click on TCP/IP it should all say Obtain IP and DNS automatically, assuming you getting on through a router ?

Now try going to Start -> RUN -> CMD (or command if that doesn't work) -> OKand type ipconfig /all <enter>

You might want to copy/paste the results of that here, if there is a Default Gateway listed, try pinging the IP of it... for me results are like this:

Pinging 10.100.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.100.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=255

For most people with a store bought home router it's going to be 192.168.x.x....

When it starts up I am getting:
Application failed to initialize: 0x800106BA
I looked it up, didn't think it had anything to do with this (could be wrong).

Another thing I am noticing with this machine is that all the "HELP" (as in troubleshooter) files are missing, it gives me a dll error when I click on one of those

Go to the Control Panel and select Network Connections. Click the Local Area Connections Properties Icon. In that window double click the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP). Make sure the Obtain an IP address automatically is enabled and the DNS server is enable. Then in the bottom right hand corner click the Advanced box and the IP Setting should show the DHCP is enabled.

Oh, another quick test is in the same Local Area Connections Properties box go to the Advance tab and go to Windows Firewall. Disable it just to test and see if the firewall maybe blocking the network traffic.

Thanks a million dude, you just saved me a lot more wasted time and confusion (and ultimately MONEY, cause I would have taken it somewhere after today.
