I have had more than one thing in the safe over time. S&W and Ruger wheel guns, and Golcks tend to occupy most of the space these days.

Other occupants included Sigs, various 1911 types, and so forth.

My and my Glock will see you in 20 years service free! Oops, did I start something there!

To each their own. I think being comfortable and proficient with what you got is the most important thing.

20 years service free? Huh? What fun is that? Well I guess the 1911 has been IN service for 93 years. But not what you were talking about. At least when the good ole John Browning masterpiece malfunctions you can still pistol whip the perp. One thing is for sure, when a person properly cutomizes or builds a 1911.....I dont think there is a polymer framed handgun out there that will outshoot or outlive it.....period.

Adding a little #2 to the fire as well.

Don't get me wrong. I would REALLY like to have a fully customized 1911, just can't spring for it! They are fun.

However - lets go head to head out of the box and see what happens!!

$$$'s to $$$'s, accuracy, and reliablity, I win!

Just having fun here, I think!

Oh, and maybe a spitting contest to boot. Hoss, help me out here!

You are right about dollar for dollar reliability, until one of those things kaboom in your hand. j/k I cant disagree with you there. Theres just something about an all steel handgun.

Yeah....I gotta agree with Matt on this one. All things considered, and straight out of the box, I'd take my Glock over any other gun on the market (for concealed carry and self defense that is).

I'm certainly not saying that I wouldn't mind having a nice custom 1911 though.

Since my last update, I have added a few things to the Commander. I made the trip up to Nowlin MFG. and had them install a set of there Low mount rear night sights and trijicon front night sight. I have also added the Cylinder and Slide Lite Speed hammer to match the Cylinder and Slide Ultra Lite sear. With the matched hammer and sear, the trigger breaks like glass.

Here is a complete rundown of the work done:

1. Videcki 3 hole trigger
2. Install, smooth frame slots and set overtravel.
3. EGW thick flange bushing .575" Cut and fit to barrel
4. Refit lower barrel feet for Proper lock up and crown
barrel
5. Reliability tune(throat frame and recontour and polish, polish barrel mouth and recontour forhollowpoints, polish chamber and
breechface, bevel firing pin hole, clearance grip safety to remove
without dropping MSH, set extractor tension and polish, deburr bottom of chamber, and smooth disconnector rail, and smooth hammer hooks and sear nose, and check for hammer
follow, set trigger at 4 1/2 lbs
6. EGW Slide Stop
7. Wilson Extractor
8. EGW Firing Pin Stop
9. Lower and flair ejection port
10. Ed Brown High Rise Beavertail grip safety with memory groove
11. Ed Brown 20lpi Checkered Main spring housing
12. ISMI 19lb main spring
13 Ed Brown Tactical Thumb Safety
14. Kimber Double Diamond Rosewood Grips
15. Cylinder & Slide Ultra Lite Sear
16. Nowlin Low Mount Night Sight and Trijicon Front
17. Cylinder & Slide Lite Speed Hammer
18. ISMI Chrome Silcon Recoil Spring

Looks great, Monty! Have you had a chance to shoot it since the latest round of work?

Yessir, forgot to add that. I have put 340 rounds thru it since the modifications. The only problem I have seen is mag related. The Chip McCormick 8 rounders are giving me some trouble on the last round but the original Colt mags are fine.

Here is another shot.

I gotta throw my 2Cents worth in here. I very partial to the 1911s. Have owned many over the years. One I really treasure is a 1943 Remington Rand that was my Dad's WW2 carry piece. Still in the original 1943 dated shoulder holster.

As far as customs and the work you've done on your Commander. It's hard to beat the deal I got recently. A Combat Commander Enhanced Model from a walker at the Miami gun show. NIB, $500!

Glocks, I've owned and carried 'em. Dont' care for 'em. I've read more than one story about people who have shot themselves thru the *** cheek with one. The NYPD went to a heavy trigger spring when they used 'em.

If I'm carrying heavy, it's the Commander Enhanced or my Sig 220. Down here in the Keys, not much opportunity to carry such a big piece concealed, so it's the Kel-Tec 380 in the right hip pocket. Hard to conceal much when it's shorts and a T shirt 95% of the time.

Yeah, the XSE Commander is nice but it had a few features on it that I didnt like. First of all, I went in knowing that it would be a customized gun. Why buy and XSE with the bells and whistles already on it if your just gonna take it off. Plus I wanted and Ed Brown Memory Groove, and I didnt like the forward cocking serrations on the XSE.

However, the XSE is a nice pistol and certainly one I wouldnt mind carrying.

My next project will be a Caspian frame and slide and high end components.
