Transformers 2: they wake up the one in the Smithsonian air and space museum, and when he busts the doors down they are in a airplane wrecking yard.

I don't like NASCAR's new website. Too much video. Video does work better on it though, half the time it wouldn't load on their old one.

I have had mornings that made me question if those around me are going to survive. Today its the moron on the cell phone weaving around the road in front of me.

I like it!

I only mentioned having this crud in the hope that it might make some of you feel better.
I have learned a long time ago that the breakroom is not the best place to illicit sympathy.

Its a little like an antelope showing the hyena's that it has a broken leg in hopes that the hyena's will feel sorry for it.
One sign of weakness and you are lunch.

Yup! Having one right now as a matter of fact. I've been fighting with this site for half an hour just trying to get to the 'Other' Forum and when I get here I find an embedded Ford Commercial. Amazing how they can do that crap but not give any thought as to why the site may be slow!

It's Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 and this is what has happened on this date in history:

1879 - James Shields began a term as a U.S. Senator from Missouri. He had previously served Illinois and Minnesota. He was the first Senator to serve three states.

1917 - U.S. President Wilson pleaded for an end to war in Europe, calling for "peace without victory." America entered the war the following April.

1944 - Allied forces began landing at Anzio, Italy, during World War II.

1957 - Suspected "Mad Bomber" was arrested in Waterbury, CT. George P. Metesky was accused of planting more than 30 explosive devices in the New York City area.

1970 - The first regularly scheduled commercial flight of the Boeing 747 began in New York City and ended in London about 6 1/2 hours later.

1973 - The U.S. Supreme Court struck down state laws that had been restricting abortions during the first six months of pregnancy. The case (Roe vs. Wade) legalized abortion.

1984 - Apple introduced the Macintosh during the third quarter of Super Bowl XVIII.

1998 - Theodore Kaczynski pled guilty to federal charges for his role as the Unabomber. He agreed to life in prison without parole.

2001 - Acting on a tip, authorities captured four of the "Texas 7" in Woodland Park, CO, at a convenience store. A fifth convict killed himself inside a motor home.

2002 - Lawyers suing Enron Corp. asked a court to prevent further shredding of documents due to the pending federal investigation.

2002 - AOL Time Warner filed suit against Microsoft in federal court seeking damages for harm done to AOL's Netscape Internet Browser when Microsoft began giving away its competing browser.

2002 - Kmart Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy making it the largest retailer in history to seek legal protection from its creditors.

2003 - It was reported that scientists in China had found fossilized remains of a dinosaur with four feathered wings.

Today's thought: Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I see the coffee and ph00 are still brewing, but if the coffee makers are like the rest of this place, they probably don't work like they're supposed to either!

What happened? Did Ford actually spam the sight?

I thought I had gotten into some bad "medicine" or something.

or maybe...
Don't confuse him - - he can't handle it. .............
BTW, even with the apparent hallucinations, I didn't see any unusual performance issue with the site. If some are getting slowed way down you might want to look at specifics. Comes to mind.....( tough this early)
1. Multiple servers, one on a bad wire.
2. Popups, handled differently by different browsers, or even routers.

Doesn't seem to matter to me. I can be on the office network, on a hotel network or on an aircard like I am now, and using Firefox or Explorer, I get slow loading or NO loading, aborted loads, error messages... you name it. Bob's another one that has problems too,and he's at the opposite end of the country with a different service provider than I ever use.

Then all of a sudden, it all clears up and runs great for a day or two.

And this is the ONLY site I have this kind of trouble with.

If there's an outside link to advertizing, and image, etc, then the browser end has to parse the URL. The DNS system is built like a tree, so the query goes to the providers DNS server, which Queries one of the top servers, which points it to the page provider's DNS server, which then has to be queried, etc. Any break in the process usually hangs the page.

You should see the mischief that occurs when someone in the orient composes a DNS record that substitutes arrowtanker.com for arrowtank.com. Some e-mail from the region served doesn't make the trip, and gets an error message "User not found". Many faxed documents, and an hour doing linux DIG queries finally found the errant record. A few asbestos e-mails to the right parties and it was fixed. (The nice ones didn't work, threatening to sue did.)

The obvious solution is to host the ad copy locally. Another solution is code that times out quickly and either ignores the ad or stuffs in a default image.

The obvious solution to me is to get rid of the ads to begin with. This is an information site, if people want certain information, they ask for it. It doesn't need to be shoved down their throats. That philosophy is ONE reason we have 100,000+ members to begin with. All these ads and slow load times are probably the reason only 2 or 3 hundred of those 100k members come here in the course of a day anymore. We have prohibited members from posting ANY kind of ad in the forums what-so-ever, which is as it should be, but instead we have more pop-ups and permanent ads in every forum, topic, thread and post.

There are 4 ads on this 'Reply to Thread' page alone, not counting any that happen to pop up at any random time and not counting all the ads that will load with the next page when I hit 'Submit Reply'. "Waiting for..." is all I see in the lower left corner whenever I go from one page to another and anywhere between 15 and 50 will load. That's a bit excessive as far as I'm concerned.

Once upon a time there was a really computer savvy Dodge Diesel enthusiast who wanted to start a Forum and reach out to others to share stories and information. The site grew and grew until one day the site became to large to reasonably control. It was then sold to a company that specializes in operating such forums.. That company is not interested in the same idea of sharing knowledge and comradery. That company found ways to use the forum as a marketing opportunity to make money.
