Clutch for 2001 Mitsubishi

My wife told me that she is having a problem intermittently getting her 2001 Mitsubishi eclipe GT to get into first gear, she said sometimes she has to jam it in first it grinds, going into second, it's not as bad as first gear. When I drive it, the only thing I notice is everyonce in a while I feel a "hiccup" while driving. First thought was clutch. But not real sure cause I'm not very mechanical.

Thanks folks!

I had a'96 mitsubishi and I had a problem with the hydraulic clutch cylinder. It was leaking and acting funny.
