My wife is from San luis obispo (central coast) I am forced to go out there at least once a year. This is the most heavily regulated place I have ever seen. I was on a sidewalk walking and smoking a small cigar. A cop in some gay looking spandex shorts rides up on his bicycle and says "put it out right now" I just kind of looked at him and said Ok, he says I could write you up for this. I was blown away. It as close as I have ever been to a true nanny state. Big brother is every where out there and it is kind of creepy. I bought a antique muzzle loading shotgun while in nevada and when I tried the local Mailboxes etc.in SAn Luis to Ship it back to KY. The person looked at the old gun like it was a poisonous snake and in a very nasty tone said "we don't touch guns and we refuse to ship them"( 190 yr. old inoperable shotgun!) Anti -gun, anti-personal choices. I am a big boy and I don't need the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia to decide if I have eaten one to many Twinkies for my own good. Sorry for the rant( I think the problem is compounded by being stuck with my mother in law for a week at a time as well).

Uh, since when was it illegal to smoke outdoors? I think I would have just kept on walking.

Boy you sure got that right! I got a little story about that. A few months back there was a big debate about corporate america coming in and stealing revenue from the downtown business because they wanted to put in a Target, Circuit City, Old Navy and some other box stores. Well they said "NO!" So what do they "OK" downtown? They tear out one of the few parking areas downtown and put in an outdoor mall with, Abocrombie/Finch, Pottery Barn, Banana Republic. Doesn't make since to me.
