chrysler 300 or dodge charger / need info.
Trying to help a friend decide between the two. Anyone have any problems with either? He's an older gent so 1/4 mile times don't matter. How about ride, interior, engine choices, price, fuel mileage ect...........Thanks

They are basically the same. Kinda like gmc and chevy, ford and licoln.
The 300 is on the more luxury side and the charger is on the sporty side but this is just the looks. He should get the hemi if he gets either one.
It is all about the looks. Which ever one he thinks looks better.
As far as powertrain they are the same. Fuel milage is good with the hemi with mds , we get 22 on the interstate in the magnum trying to spin the big wheels.
Cant go wrong either way they will be happy.

More or less the same car. Both are designated LX Bodies, as well as the magnum. Same Engine/Tranny choices; 2.7 3.5, 5.7 and 6.1. The 300 is a very heavy car, where as the Charger is much lighter. Charger will do a bit better as far as MPG. Charger feels more nimble, where the 300 has more of a big, heavy car ride, such as a Caddy. If I were him, I would get a 3.5L. Plenty of get up and go for what he needs. No real issues with them. Regulators go bad. If it has a NAG tranny, (which it will only have if he goes with the 3.5, will be the AWD model. The RWD has the 42RLE. ), they sometimes have a leaky connector that the wires run through, the orings don't seal correctly and it will cause ATF to drip. Simple fix. Other than that, no real problems. Any questions, just ask. I know the parts and service ends of these cars real well.

what's the price difference? And, is one worth the money more than the other? What about insurance cost? I'm trying to help him decide tonight or I would just call myself tomorrow.

They run awesome. VERY fast. You said he wasn't worried about the speed so much. The 5.7 will surprise. My mom has a Grand Cherokee (06) with one and it runs REAL good.
No more problems than with the other models. Brake jobs are expensive. Just did one on an GC today and pads/rotors F&R for parts alone was 1400 bucks.
If you keep your foot out of it, mileage isn't much worse than the 5.7

I would go with the 5.7L. Better performance than the 3.5, and about the same fuel economy on the highway. MDS on the 5.7 helps.
My Maggie gets around 22-24mpg highway (75-80mph) running on regular unleaded. 16-18mpg for around town driving.
Only mods is a 180 t-stat, modified airbox and 255/55/18 tires.

The SRT is a great car, but if he doesnt want or care about the 425hp (full second difference in 1/4), Brembo brakes, better performance suspension, etc, then the 5.7 will fit him just fine. The 300C is probably what I would recommend for him. Where it gets tricky is in the pricing. I looked at 2 300s yesterday while getting the oil changed on the Cummins and was shocked. A loaded 300C is less than $3000 less than an SRT8! The only difference I could find was the C had a Navi unit and the SRT did not. To me that was a no brainer.

I have the Charger R/T and drive the wheels off it. Probably one of the best driving cars I've owned. No problems what so ever @ 30,000 mi. The only thing I don't like is it's really squirrely on wet streets. ( TOO MUCH TORQUE).

I also own a 2007 Charger SRT8 Superbee (Number 722/1000), and it is by far an AWESOME machine. It is a low-13 second car, stock, and will hang with many pieces of machinery costing much more.
Oh, and it gets the same mileage as my Grand Marquis (16s around town) with twice the horsey power!!
