Chevy Turbo 350

1977 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 4X4 rebuilt Turbo 350 tranny. Tires off the ground it will turn wheels great. Tires on the ground, start in reverse it wont go in drive, start in drive and it wont go in reverse. Running like 3000 RPM to get the truck to move at all in either direction. What gives?

Sounds like something is slipping, not enough fluid, or possible valve body issue??

We had a Chebby like that in auto class. No power with wheels on ground, but we raised it and ran great. Our teacher helped us unbolt the exhaust. Those Chevy engins sound awesome with no exhaust. We even hade a lil flame show. I might call the teacher and ask what the final problem was.
