Chevy Sound System Questions!!!
I'm working up a system for my Brother's truck(1995 GMC C3500 Crew Cab)...here's what I've got so far:
Infinity Kappa 462.7CFP for Rear
Infinity Kappa 63.7i for Front
Powered by JL 300/4 Amp (75W x 4 RMS @ 2 Ohns)
Either 2- JL 10w3v2's OR 2- JL 12w3v2's (Depending on Space)
Powered by JL 500/1
My First Question is are Infinity Speakers any good?? What is a better speaker in a 4x6 and a 6.5 coaxial??
Second...How should I wire the subs?? Parallel or Series, High or Low Impedence? The Amp is good for 500W down to 1.5 Ohms. Also, how exactly do I wire (physically) 2 subs with dual voice coils to one amp?
Any comments, suggestions, or answers??
Thanks in Advance Guys,
Chris

First, I've used Infinity speakers and like them fine. I'm not into show quality sound, but I like it load and clean.
Second, I would not recommend running your subs any lower than in the 4 ohm configuration. Some amps say rated for 2 ohms (I've never seen the 1.5 ohm before) but they heat up like a toaster oven. DON'T DO IT. Run them at 4. If they are 8 ohm speakers, run them in parrallel. If they are 4 ohm speakers, you might should have thought of that before hand. You are kind of screwed (minus the dual voice coils, they might save you). Series raises it to 8 and parallel drops it to 2. Like I said, you can try them at 2, but I ain't promising you amp won't shut off or catch the carpet on fire. As far as the dual voice coils go, I believe you can use that to configure your ohmage (is that a word?). Check the ohms of the coils, then figure out a way to wire them. I would guess by not looking into it that you would wire the dual coils of each speaker in parallel then put the two individual speakers in series. If the coils are 4 ohms, that would make the total system also 4 ohms. Make sense? Parallel divide by two, series add together. Confused yet?
Does this help? If not, pm me.

I know all about parallel and series wiring, but thanks about the heat concern, never thought about that...however, I've got the sub in my truck wired at 2 Ohms and the amp never even gets above warm, vene on full blast (which is freaking cool) .
I will watch closely here before I order them and see if I'm correct!!
I think I'll shoot for 2 Ohms...which means I'll wire it like this:

Thanks for you help,
Any more opinions?

Good luck. I'm sure the amplifier technology of today is far advanced from the old Earthquake amps that I still have. I bought them when I was in high school, around '90 or '91. They still run and still crank out the power, they just won't handle the 2 ohms like they said they would.
Heat is your major enemy. Keep them cool. If you stuff them under a seat, be sure to get a little fan or some way to force air around the heat sinks.

We changed our minds, I think we're gonna try to get 3-10's back there...so I'm still gonna shoot for the lowest impedence!
How do I physically wire them up?? Just run a bunch of wires from the amp??
Thanks Again,
Chris
