chev gas in tank fuel pump

I know its not a diesel but I need some quick advise for a freind. She has a 2002 chev silverado 4x4 heavy duty with a 6.0 liter engine. The in tank fuel pump quit and I was wondering if a person can bypass the in tank fuel pump and put a frame mounted after market pump on the truck. Any input would be helpful. She is not to crazy on spending big money on the in tank pump. If this post get deleted by the boss that is okay I just would like some advise to help a freind out. Thanks for your time

That price is way too high. Here it is at my local Autozone for $271

Autozone fuel pump

Send me $400 and I'll ship you one. Saves her $300 already

They can be had cheaper, check out GMparts direct if she wants OEM, I know you can have this done at the dealer for about 800 out the door

I bought just the pump unit for my buddys' S-10 off of ebay for $25. Have to take the fuel module a part to put it in, but was much better than the $300 for the complete module.

That one is $35 with free ship. Not too bad a job to put it in there. Took about 1 hour on his S10
