The Chester Shorts Memorial Breakroom - 3/30 - 4/5

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
Fair warning, I'll be throwing photos up all over the breakroom.
Look at my sausage! 6weeks old here the day we got our pick.
He was the biggest dog in the litter. I knew I wanted a big adult dog and I was picking the one that looked like it'd be it. After we cut him from the herd and spent some time with him, we knew he was ours.
I can't remember if the adult Lab in the third pic is his mom or one of the others in the family. I want to say that is not his momma. But, as an adult, Chester is a spitting image of his mom.
The third pic, his blurred tail is emblematic of his photos for life. I know that wag...(and I just lost it again)

Michael would take a dim view of my spending $300,000 to get firewood! Decisions, decisions.!
To do any better with a tractor than the backhoe, you'd want to go with an articulated 4x4. Old square-cabbed Steigers can be had fairly cheap. If you can find one. The snow plowers figured that out a few years ago and put Otter or Grouser blades on them for big parking lots. With the big wide tires and duals they float. Narrower single tires cut down through the mud to find something hard, if there is anything.
The Allis Chalmers 7580 I had would drag a plow through a swamp if there was a hardpan under it. They were a good tractor but they had crankshaft troubles, and Agco has pretty well abandoned any parts support for anything but the Massey Ferguson tractors.
Allis built a lot of power unit and industrial equipment, which would run forever, but in some of the later series tractors, the thrust bearings in the engines were so weak, that they literally bolted a roller bearing between the front of the crank pulley and tractor frame to prevent the crankshaft from moving forward when the clutch was disengaged.
Talked to dad today, he says the mud can't get any deeper. I don't miss that stuff!
6 pages into a google search for places that repair/rebuild drill batteries and found 2, and they both cost more than a new battery (Craftsman [better use the proper name, what I usually call Sears tools may get me in trouble] 19.2V). Some of the places that carry new batteries, nearly $70 each, I can buy a 2-pack at Sears for $67. Or I can buy 2, single batteries, at $30 each..... That was a hard decision... sure! Tempted to try the lithium, but can't justify the cost, unless they are a ton better. Had to think real hard about not spending another $40 on a drill kit with the lithium battery and charger for it. Wasn't that much hard thinking, just spent a few minutes wandering between the two spots on the shelf before deciding I was probably father ahead getting 2 Ni-Cd's.
Worked yesterday, this morning I went to the bank, wally's-mart, Sears, chiropractor, and the hardware. Got home, put everything away, and got to work at 1230. Wind was so bad the boss told me to skip fence and find some materials to built stands for the big solar fence chargers to get them up off the ground a little bit. The mice are getting into the battery boxes on them and chewing up the wires. Got the third one done at 8. Pretty much overdid it after the back cracking. Lower back muscles were so bad I couldn't get stood up off the table. Still feel a lot better than I did before, though.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
G'day everyone. Been without internet for days now, but am on a borrowed computer for a few hours.
At the moment I am staying with my oldest sister and her husband in Jeffreys Bay. This is one of the surfing capitols of the world. Lovely little town and fantastic beaches. We move on tomorrow to an even nicer area.
My wife is under the weather due to receiving a tick bite. Fortunately in this part of the world Lyme disease is unknown. The doc has her on an antibiotic anyway. Went for a fantastic fresh dinner dinner yesterday. It is located almost on the beach of the Indian Ocean. This restaurant catches it own fish daily. Maybe will go there again today.
Shorts, so sorry to hear about your loss. Been there and it hurts, no matter which way you try to slice it or water it down. Time does away with some of the hurts, but the memories never go away. Just yesterday my sister and I were talking about a Rhodesian Ridgeback that I used to own. Name of Snooky. Can't remember where the name came from, but a great dog. Your loss made me remember other dogs that I have owned (and lost) as a kid.
Happy birthday to all the folks here that have had birthdays recently.
May you enjoy getting older. I stopped aging years ago and adopter the second name of Peter Pan. Trying to remember; fake it till you make it.

Keep throwing!
I've done that a few times in my life. $12,000 a month payments back in the 80's had me working 16 hour days, 7 days a week! Ironically, the last big things I purchased were 2 Cat skidders, a whole tree chipper and a stroke delimber.
I have to stay in the 10 to 15K range. And a lot of my wood sources are close to the farm. I wouldn't be able to run a dozer down the road like I can with the loader or a tractor or skidder. But yes, a dozer would be the best choice as far as performance goes. I need to compromise a little performance for practicality but ANYTHING would do better than the little 18" tires on the JCB.
I've seen those but I think they'd be a bit too large for my woodlots. I'm trying to keep at least 40 trees to the acre, which means fairly close spacing. The JCB is great in that regard, as would be a mid-sized tractor, possibly a 440 JD skidder.
Morning all.
Thanks to all of you that sent birthday wishes!

Did I ever tell you I hate dentists - - when in the office? ........
Well, I need to be honest - - my dentist is very careful, quite gentle, nice gentleman, fair in pricing. He gave me a good shot and did a fine job with no pain other than electrocuting my tongue. Wow, almost jumped out of the chair. Now, just to nurse my numb mouth and face.
Good pics, Shorts. Good memories.

lotsa ol guys playing April fool's jokes at the hospital. it would be lethal to some if these gatters weren't so charming. wait! Bark!! Is that U?!!!!
saw a picture of a dog's paw pads, might be too tough on tender hearts though, caption read:
If you had one wish; would it be to have your best friend live forever?
more hugs sent today M.!! and of course yoo ol softy chiakwa! that dog has the best parents/owners/boyz who never left their furry heroes.
paperwork came in the mail; all bad. but one was from humane shelter about this new cat. seems she is one of a kind. 13 years old, high energy and fearless curiosity. weird huge feet and fangs, claws. talks like a human, (maybe too much at night). if she needs something -it is 3 defined grunts/puffs. found out she was a feral rescue and a Devon Rex breed created from a mix of barn cats. abnormally soft non allergenic fur- black guard hairs with orange underneath, very striking contrast. will search and walk on two legs, extremely intelligent and vocal. playful, likes soccer with a tennis ball it appears. she makes me move, laugh and learn. glad I got rescued. my orange 'dog' tolerates another cat but would rather walk with me to do maple syrup in the woods. plays fetch too. animals are awesome

Nope, not me (I have been swimming).
Howdy StanLaryScotScottyChrisHeidiFrmhndetc,
Our dog had a thing about stealing potatoes and hiding them. We were still finding dried out potatoes years later.
My dentist (in CA) is also very nice and because he is already working on the upper end,
if I ever need a camera shoved up my butt again I will ask him to do it.

Managed to see the new Doc today. EKG and Blood work done. Talked to the Hosp about Monday's surgery. Still Snafu on THAT paperwork. It seems I'm reinventing the medical insurance wheel. Maybe by the time I get done with it, You guys will have it easier.
Coworkers pocket knife is looking better and better. All I need is a divit taken out, bet they can do it over lunch break!

Sherod, what do you need done? I just sharpened all my knives and I'm sure I can find a 'how to' youtube vid to walk me through. I need a project to distract me.
Thanks JWBM. Still tender indeed. I'd opt yes to the question.
Sorry to hear about the "we don't know" from the Docs. Hoping for some answers for you.
