CB interference
How many guys have a FASS and have alot of noise with your CB reception? I tapped the power port wires and ran the coax down the frame rail and have alot of noise. It transmits well as I have called for a radio check numerous times. What have you guys done? Mike

Mine with he FASS is clear, the only noise I get is when listening to a very weak AM station on the radio at idle. You might try adding a capacitor to cancel the noise.

Where do you get your CB power from?
If not hooked directly to the battery, try that.
I have always hooked CB's up that way and never had any noise induced.

Exactly, and is your antenna properly tuned for a decent VSWR? Also keep the radio wires from near the ECM where some unwanted EM coupling (interference) could happen.

Also, a bad ground could easily cause a background static. Make sure your antenna has a good connection witht he mount, and the mount has a good connection with the frame. Sometimes it is necessary to run a wire from your antenna mount to the frame of the truck. And check your SWR, it should be at 1.25, mine was off a bit, and tuning it in made a big difference, I get no background noise now.

Best bet woul dbe to put an noise filter inline between battery and your transciever. RipOff Shack has them for about $15 or so, they really make a difference, killing any alternator or other RF interference heard at the rig.

I don't have your answer, but I do have a question. What can you suggest to reduce or eliminate the noise when I run my wide-load strobes? Have to turn my squelch up to where I might as well turn the radio off. About 1/4 mile total range. This old R shack special is about 18 yrs old, and has about 4-6 miles of range with the strobes off. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Rick

greatwhite - First thing I'd try would be the same suggestion... an inline noise filter... if that stops it you are all set, if not, then you know its actually getting in via RF through the anttenna/feedline or the rig itself, that means Part 15(b) USC (FCC)...this device must accept RF from other devices yadda yadda... in other words try moving your antenna(s), next get another radio, the newer rigs *should* have better out of band noise rejection.
FRS/GMRS radios may be another option (assuming you are talking within a group in a relatively close proximity ~2-5 miles)

Just to be clear, SWR should be less than 1.25 to 1, not right at it. The lower the SWR, the better off you are.
Also, you might want to consider using shielded electrical wire and running directly to the battery with your positive connection, while running as direct to the frame as possible with the ground.
