Buzzer? Light ?

Am I completely off base here ??? Isn't there a warning system installed in dump trucks ? A light ? A buzzer ? Never drove one of that size.

If not there should be something to curb boneheads from doing something as careless as this..

Wow, that's a big "oops". I'd sure hate to have to call up the boss and explain that one.

It is amazing how often that happens. Few months ago they had one where the bed started going up and other drivers started beeping at the driver to warn him.
He flipped off a couple of people before hitting an overpass.

I had the box on the tandem start up on me once when I left a site. Didn't take long to get up into the trees. Heard it hitting branches and stopped.
Levers on that truck were about a foot long and moved about 1/2 an inch at the end to engage PTO and raise/drop the box.

So there is NO warning system in place in these trucks ?

My Mitsu box truck has a nasty LOUD buzzer when the cab lever is not locked. You cannot start the truck without listening to this horrid sound. Obviously, if you drive it (ignoring) and hit your brakes, the cab will fly forwards if the locking tab breaks, and you'll eat pavement.

Amazing.

Years ago I drove an end dump and you had to consciously engage the PTO before any of the hydraulics would work, the truck always flexed if you moved it with the bed up, I lost a 40' end dump at a land fill years ago, hit soft ground and it just toppled over, twister right off the back of the tractor.

No warning buzzer on that one.

After removing an air conditioner unit from a building at Van Nuys Airport I was headed to the dump with the unit, I got the load wedged in tight under a railroad underpass, the AC was about 50' long, I finally got it out by dumping all of the air rides on both the tractor and the trailer and scraping my way back out.

This guy was probably too bust texting to notice he forgot to put the dump down.

Amazing.

In the state of Mass it is a requirement to have an alarm for the dump body. It is part of the annual inspection and you do fail if its not working.

Not sure of other states.

I've never seen a "bed up warning", but the old stuff I've run, you were lucky if the fan turned on when you needed the defrosters, and didn't need to run a ground to any body lights when you pulled the headlight switch!

There is supposed to be a light and buzzer for body up.If not there should be.A lot cheaper than a new truck or bridge or all those wires it will tear down.

That's the way they end up when a load of scrap iron hangs up on the tailgate.

Been there, done that. Only a 6 yard 2 ton, but it was a pucker moment fer sure.

We had a backhoe with a faulty hydro seat that would send the boom out and up while driving it around the job site. Kind of exciting...

A "turn your ?%&! blinker off" warning buzzer would be more helpful around here...

Or turn signal switches that actually work.
