It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
T/rad, can't you access the non return valve and accidentally on purpose drill a hole in it? Or jam it in the open position?

I heard Scott has some stashed away. Drive on you Jedi, the force is with you.
Marc, the only good thing about that tree is the power company will cut it back to the house.
Afternoon, just popping my head in. Working on plumbing, YUCK! Pipes should be drained by now, time to vacuum out the arachnid super highway. Just a heads up, if you're on a public water system and the water board changes your meter for any reason, you need to find out if the new one has a check valve on it. As I understand it, they are now required in most places. The water department changed mine last summer and I've had a boat load of issues ever since. I finally got them out here at the house this week and found the root of the problem, the check valve. The valve will not let water back past the meter and when the hot water tank cycles it raises the pressure in the water lines to the point of bursting. I've had one line develop a pin hole leak, one pressure regulator fail and I found out yesterday my neighbor to the right had an outside line bust. I'm having to install a pressure tank in the line to resolve my issues. Can you say not happy.

Looks like my prom date. But at least she shaved her LEGGS.
Wife used to be afraid of spiders. After she discovered how well a vacuum works on the webs she became a killing machine.
Your way does sound easier.

Maybe you could rig a copper rod to expand with heat off the hot water line as the temp increases and have it reach up to the toilet handle and flush the toilet to relieve the line pressure? Better yet, a thermocoupling leading to a 12 volt battery and windshield wiper moter that can be rigged to the toilet handle. Just run a hot water supply to the toilet rather than a cold.
That's what I have. The problem is that it's a 2.1 gallon tank. I can't just hang it in the air and expect the pipe to carry the weight. I had a piece of wire shelving in the garage so I picked up some brackets to mount it to the 2x4 studs. I also got a water pressure gauge that will screw on to the washer line or the hot water tank. Once I get it all mounted I'll run the pressure up to where I want it and add the same amount of air to the tank per the instructions. The tanks are only shipped with 35 pounds of air.

I have an Extrol (made by Amtrol model 30 mounted on mine. 12psi to 100psi. I only have about 40psi air in it since it has a lot of expansion room. I have it mounted horizontally so the plumbers tape supports it from the air valve and the top. I installed it with a quality 1/2 ball valve so I can change it when needed. Supposodly mounting them horizontaly decreases the life but the last one lasted 15 years before getting water logged (I check the pressure every year). Its supposed to be used for a closed heating system but it works for me. I fugure, put the biggest one you can on it if you have the room, the cost isnt that much different. Problem is, if you dont have a flow restrictor or the tank pressure set right, you can wind up with a brief surge of hot water pressure when you first open a valve. It doesnt bother me since the water at the tap or shower takes a few seconds to get hot anyway.

I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!
