MORNING FELLOW DTRotarions>
warmed up a bit 18º and sunny
back in the 60`s i was a member of SSCA anf as a member i ran several events - jim-kana`s - were my specalty -
some of these events were held in hay fields - some in parking lots - some on local race tracks some on actual road corses -in the winter many events were held on lakes (ice races ) because of the diffrence in surfaces it was necessary to set up suspention & tires diffrently for each corse
did quite well at them-
because of the sucess i was having i got the chance to drive several veicles in some of these events -
Citrone was one - thay had an amazing suspention system - you could controle road heigth - these cars were amazingly stable -
Saab was an interesting veicle to drive at these events & quite popular in the sedan class.
several of the members were GM engeneers this lead to gm subsidising them and then other companys began doing the same -it really made it difficult for the individual driver that didn`t have support of a company !
all this support was unoficial and not like a nascar sponsership - GM had engineers driving Citrone- Saab-BMW as well as corvair -corvette`s Porsha`s were helped by Aer-Hart-Hart-Don -porsh dealer from Detroit - there were some drivers that recived help from BMC dealer Sport`s Car`s INC - thats where my help came from . it finally after 20 yrs, became two expensive to contrinue competing .
It was a euneek experiance and picked up a lot of ideas from seeing what the diffrent features of the varity of cars had to offer .
Thats where a lot of my goofy ideas come from on modifying cars >

Claude, your comments bring back many memories. When I was growing up,(many lives ago, another country) we used to attend gymkhana's. Lots of fun. Another sport was hill climbing using modified cars. One of the cars that consistently beat others was the old British Mini Minor with modified engines. One of them that did quite well was one that had an engine in the front as well as the back - two engines and 4 wheel drive.

A Minx? That gutless flathead 4 cyl? Or was that an overhead cam? Can't remember. Yes, the Mini Minor was Morris.
In my teens I ended up with a Triumph Mayflower. I called it my mini Rolls. Now there is a car that the majority of you will not know. Cut the roof off and made it into a "convertible". Never did make a ragtop for it. Did move the steering column shifter to the opposite side of the column which reversed the shift pattern. Dem were de days!

Bark, have a safe trip and don't forget us here at DTR'
Claude, believe or not, but I know what you are talking about. I even know SU carbs and can even tune dual and even three SU's.
Used to also own 1958 Mark 8 Jag. What a dog that was!. It had so-so performance, but the big thing was that it required endless maintenance. It had dual shocks up front, but they were always dying. Brakes? What brakes? I converted it to dual exhaust using 2" brass tubes from front to back with Massey Ferguson mufflers. Got the tubing free from the local sugar mill that re-tubed one of their boilers. It had dual gas tanks and need both of them. Man, was that thing a gas guzzler!
